As long as you have BootMii as boot2, you can try whatever you want: cIOSCORP for instance.
if you are on 4.1, the Wii Sports Resort update simply install IOS 55, that is required for some reason. And yes, you can first update via nintendo to 4.1 and then follow this guide (I did it myself).

yes, there is a japanese version. the difference is "Because this wont let the disc spin forever in the the drive. However if you use Preloader for auto-booting to the HBC then sorry, this is for System Menu hacks only." Just get it from http://wiibrew.org/wiki/StartPatch and try it out.
