Any who, @xzxero as much as I thought you were a jackass I have to take that all back. This guide has been by far the easiest and quickest mods for Virgin and non Virgin Wii's. I have to hand it to you. Self explanatory and just Simple! I have modded about 4 Wii using this method without ne issues what so ever. Thanks for making this available. I hope you don't harbor hard feelings over anything tat was said. Thanks again for a great guide! by the way I am using the search button more!!!! XD

I have preloader installed, and by system menu i mean the main wii menu. It just goes to a black screen. HBC and preloader load up fine. Im not getting any corrupt msgs

I have already a few things loaded like HBC, cIOS, bootmi plus the Trucha Bug Restorer. Can I just start from scratch with your guide and reinstall over the top without causing any problems or will I need to skip the steps I did? I am on version 3.2U after downgrading due to hosing the system menu the first time.

using this guide overwrites everything you have done before, i have done every step 1-8 on 2 diff wiis w/o prob.
i would say dont do the optional preloader though.

I am currently on 4.1e, with cioscorp 3.4, preloader, hbc i also have bootmii installed but it doesnt work! lol anyways my question is i want to update to 4.2, and read that i should use dop-ios to update ios 30 before i use nintendo to update to 4.2, is this still true for my firmware and being pal etc? or do i have to install a clean ios60 as i am on a uk pal? (if this is stupid sorry it was suggested to me) i wanted to make sure before i start. also if i update via nintendo after replacing the ***ios30*** will preloader and everythng else be removed ready for me to use this guide?

Forgot to mention it is all installed as ios not boot2 and dont have a nand back up

yup thats my understanding too. this is where im at now. i ran the 4.2 did every 1 of the 8 steps didnt skip a thing. i have gathered that after step 8. 1 needs to acquire wad manager (i have 1.5). now inside the prepack that comes with 4.2 tutorial you find patched iso70, also you need to acquire hacks.ini (put into the root of the sd) hacks.ini did not come in the copy of prepack i received. run wad manager install patched ios70 using 249 then install preloader v0.29 jodi. im waiting to get home to try it for myself.

Part of my concern with using this method is that preloader is the last step, with the other guide, preloader is done right after you install the HBC and get a backup. I like that option better because it reduces the risk of bricking. I have found that my first mistake was I used the wrong hacks.ini file which is what corrupted my sysmenu first time around. I have since found one for 3.2u so I might just try to get preloader working with that, then run my cIOS updates and any other mods I want. At least that way I have a little more protection from bricking.

Is it? I thought that tutorial (3.x-4.1) is a guide for 3.x-4.1 to upgrade to 4.2. Anyway, IOS70 is not mentioned in the 4.2 guide as well...

Nope, 3.x to 4.1 guide updates you to 4.1, not 4.2

I don't know why the 4.2 guide doesn't mention it...

Anyway, xzxero is helping me creating another guide (together with some other people)
the guide will be the biggest guide you've ever seen for Wii.
4.2 guide was already added a while ago
but I'm not going to release it yet (first we need to finish some stuff)

it works! on startup it boots to system menu. holding reset on startup boots to preloader. but when i shut the wii off the lead is red like when i unplug it.

Oh yes, my bad. It installs system menu 4.1. But if you are on 3.1 for example, you wont have ios60, so I wonder what happens if you install system menu 4.1 then...
instant brick; thats why the 3.x guide has IOS 60 in the DOP-IOS step

Hi guys. Couple of questions and suggestions. I followed the new guide and it went smoothly except for a few times where I need to press b which were left out but all in all a smooth run through. It got a little sketchy when you say preloader is optional now and no guidance is given on what to do if you do want to install the option of preloader (I had to search the thread to find out about installing the modded ios70 wad). Also there is no wad manager in the precompiled newmod file which I think is a rather large oversight considering it is needed to install the modded ios70 wad to recover from the preloader install.
Here is my biggest question. I installed cioscorp 3.4 and it seems that the wii is not reading backups. I had no issue previously using 3.3 under system menu 4.1 guide. So the question is should I uninstall 3.4 and install 3.3 once again? Or is 3.3 even compatible with 4.2 system menu? Or should I just wait for cioscorp 3.5 which I hear will be out soon?

i dont include wad manager because i think it will confuse people and they will think they have to install preloader
and anyways wad manager is widely available everywhere
if you installed cIOScorp on a 4.2 wii, you must have preloader to make the system menu use IOS60.
3.5 cioscorp will have IOS70 so it wont be a problem.

Righty, I've complete all steps for 4.2 (except the optional ones). SOOOO... how do I actually play my backups now? I know they work because they work on the other Wii + D2 Pro. Originals play from the disc channel but not backups.

EDIT: I put NeoGamma in the apps folder and it plays backups

yea thats the right way guy, you can also use softchip.

your cIOS inst installed most likely you got an error -1035 without noticing.
make sure you delete the IOS's with any title deleter then run the cIOS installers

yes, installing that patched IOS70 will take of that.

yea install a clean IOS30 prior to updating to 4.2 to you can reinstall homebrew channel correctly.
you might also have to install a clean IOS61 if you menu is upside down.

preloader is only good for low level brick, like banner bricks.
if people were to mess up on this guide, such as uninstalling an IOS or system menu, preloader wouldnt help anyways.

i don't know if you ever got an answer but this is what i think you have been asking for. i would ask questions about your firmware and wii model if i were you this site had quite a few warnings.
