If you use an installer app then yes it will replace the previous cIOS. Someone correct me if I'm wrong but if you use the guide and try installing with the .wad files you must delete the currently installed cIOS with Any Title Deleter first.
you only have to erase the cIOS when you are downgrading revisions.

eg:
v17 to v19 of waninkoko's doesnt need the cIOS deleted
v19 to v17 does

v4 to v5 of hermes' doesnt need the cIOS deleted
v5 to v4 does

the stubs in the 4.2 update are maxed out revisions, so they have to be deleted to install any cIOS.

If I install the same cIOS with different version, will it be able to replace the old one ?

no installing cios will override previous version no deleteing is required

What xzxero said is correct.

You have to delete the old IOS if you are trying to downgrade revisions.

Upgrades do not need the deletion. Did a downgrade yesterday of 249 from V19 to V17.

Would fail until i deleted the old V19 (used MMM to delete it)

i up grade and downgrade with no problem i NEVER delete cios to downgrade.. i use wad install not online install. so i dont k now why u would need to delete it to downgrade..Iswitch from 17- 19 and 19-17 with out deleteing a single thing...
i use wad manager 1.6

Hi Harvey, Hmm, my experience was different.

ISO 250 could be backed out from v19 to v17, as it's id is 65535 or whatever for both.

BUT, for IOS249, I had to delete 1st. I was using MMM to do the change, using WADS on the SD card.

Maybe it depends on the WAD Manager / DOP-Mii version being used. Mines a 4.2E Wii.

I'll give Wad Manager 1.5 a go later today. (or 1.6 if I can find it to download)

yeah actually mmm wad manager will work u just need to load ios 38 to install rev 17 from 19 try that i know it will work tho

Googled for it and found it.

Waninkokos 1.6 does same thing, will NOT let you downgrade IOS249 from 19 to 17. Returns an error...

Maybe its just my Wii, which is only a few months old ??

Otherwise, maybe those managers use 249, hence unable to delete 'loaded' IOS.

Doesnt matter, cant be bothered rooting around any more with it. Was certain I used another IOS (36) to make the changes...

when any IOS/cIOS is loaded, for example 249, the set of installed IOSs doesnt matter.
It loads as the current IOS, so your free to do anything to any IOS slot, including 249.

The problem is you cant downgrade the revision number
the cIOS slot has to be deleted in order to install any revision under the current one.

it won't downgrade any IOS you have to delete r19 with ATD and then re install v17 with IOS36

your IOS are obviously not updated or have cIOSCORP because they have trucha and NAND access available.

you have no problems because cIOSCORP is installed.

right well i dont even use cioscorp just have it installed . why did u say it lets me then?

because cIOSCORP WADs [IOS9-70] have pretty much everything enabled, letting you have access to NAND, trucha, and have maxed out revisions so they can withstand Nintendo updates.
