Modding Virgin console.

So, I have a console that my stepfather is wanting to mod for him, so he can make a little arcade cabinet for the kids. I know, a pc or raspberry pie would be better, but alas, we're working with what we have.....

So, the console is a virgin system, not even been opened, never chipped, totally stock.

Is there a way to mod it without any of those save editted games? I forget if the boot discs like Slayers worked on virgin systems, I was sure the security was 100% bypassed... But figured I'd ask.

If push comes to shove, I have another Xbox system that's modded, maybe push stuff from 1 to another? Spitballing idea's here.

Let me know what I can do to this system

Easiest way is to softmod it.
Hotswapping could work, but it's dangerous and you could kill your HDD that way.

Just softmod it and if it's a 1.0-1.5 remove the Clock cap ASAP.

For a hotswap to be successful the Xbox hard drive needs to be unlocked. This can be done by simply doing this:
- put an audio cd in the xbox
- copy one track to the hd
- play the track from the HD, let play for a few seconds
- pause the song
- you HDD is now ready for hotswap!

More ways to unlock the drive:
1. Let the Xbox sit at the dash for a little while and then hotswap
2. Play a music track off of a soundtrack, pause it, then hotswap
3. Boot a game and start playing it, then hotswap
4. Unplug the DVD drive's power cable so you get an error 12 and hotswap
5. Hotswap right after you see the MS splash logo
6. If not connected to a TV, unhook the DVD drive's power cable and hotswap right when you get the red light.

Several ways to hotswap.
I'd say pick your poison if you feel adventurous.

Buy a game for $1 Splinter Cell isn't expensive.

If you have access to a library you may be able to borrow the game. Otherwise it goes for pretty cheap on Ebay, Amazon etc

Could I connect the virgin consoles hard drive to my modded system, and install the mod , then move the virgin's hard drive back into her, and end up with 2 modded systems?

So it's looking like my only option is to hotswap onto my computer and put them there.....

But what exactly do I put on the hard drive that makes it hacked?

You would need a PC with IDE for hotswapping.

Yeah, been trying it for a little while now, xboxhdm just isn't picking it up. A shame. I'm using the audio player unlock method
