    After quite a long time of no releases I am happy to announce the new version of MineDS!

    What is it?
    Minecraft for DS is a DS homebrew game, inspired by notch's Minecraft.
    It is being created by CoolAs, Wolfgange and ray from GBATemp and NSMBHD.

    Doesn't seem to be working on my emulator but I'll definitely try out the multi-player later today. Pretty sick how there's already NiFi support on first release.
    I've never heard of Terrira until a quick Google search ten seconds ago but that sounds like a better direction to transition to for a 2D minecraft game.

    Heh, this isn't the first release.
    It is rather a rewritten version of Minecraft DS - 2D.
    Be warned - multiplayer is a little buggy, sometimes it takes multiple attempts (restarts of the DS) to connect to the server and it takes a very long time to send the world over NiFi. Apart from that it is basically the same as Single Player. (It uses the exact same code, just with a flag set)

    What emulator are you using?
    For me it works in NO$GBA and DeSmuMe.

    THANK YOU!!!Thank you for not giving up i thought Minecraft DS-2D was dead and the project was dead too...BUT you continued developing it :'(...keep the great work and dont stop the project

    I actually thought that everyone from the old thread hadn't found this / wasn't interested anymore. So welcome to "The New Beginning!"

    Progress update:
    Multiplayer starts in ~5seconds.
    Sun brightness can be changed instantly. (Before it needed to have a whole world lighting update, that took ages to compute)

    I'm working on having a day-night cycle working and having zombies auto spawn, then I think I'll release 0.1.1

    Yeah i read that mineds is coming and i was waiting for it :)
    Just an exact question...Minecraft DS-2D was survival with autospawn zombies and crafting...why MineDS is creative?Are you on new engine(probably)?

    One thing I immediately noticed judging from the screenshots... It's very hard to see what's in the background, and what's in the foreground. Would be better the way Terraria does it, using a different texture for backgrounds. Using graphics from Terraria would also look much better, they're designed for 2D unlike Minecraft.

    @hez Yes we have completely changed the core of the game. Allowing us to use 16x16 blocks,with lighting.

    I can lower the extra darkness that the bg blocks get, but trying to create a whole different set of graphics would be hard (I'm not an artist) and we would have to recalculate the VRAM and try to fit everything in memory.
    (I'd prefer to work on survival rather than more VRAM and memory stuff)

    Will you add sun and moon and most important --- survival?I mean DS is not that weak look at Cave Craft for J2ME!

    I will definitely add in aspects of Survival Mode into the game. I've already made zombies and crafting + inventory will follow. I think however the crafting will look a lot like the pocket version of Minecraft, that a lot easier to code.
    I might do Sun + Moon later, but it isn't on the top of my todo list as crafting/inventory/plant growth is.

    I wonder how cool it would be to have a game like this with enviroments acting like in Worms.
    Squares make rather.... depressed and bored...

    What do you guys think the sound for when Steve (the main character) gets hurt should be? If you have minecraft, there were two versions of that sound, the old one where he says "oof" and the new blood splatter one.
    And how do you think the crafting should be? If it is possible to do both methods, would the Minecraft pocket edition style crafting bee better, or the real Minecraft style one.

    Wolfgange you mean the old MC alpha sound and the new bone breaking sound.It will be better with the bone breaking one,and also CoolAs said the crafting will be like pocket edition cuz its a lot easier to code so i agree with the PE crafting.
    P.S.Post some progress,ToDo list and stuff like that keep informed the readers :)

    v0.1.1 will be out very soon I think.
    Since last release we have added:
    • Pig and cow mobs.
    • Hurt sounds. (Player has the newer sound)
    • Nifi play speed up.
    • Day-night system
    • Mobs auto spawn
    • New lighting engine (needed for day-night system)
    • Many bugs
    Please note that v0.1.1 is not going to be a stabe tested release, and will probably have some nasty bugs.

    I say we do the PE Style crafting. It took ages for me to setup the 3x3 crafting in the older version.

    P.E. crafting Would be a lot easier and cooler, its just that the gravity seems a little... Harsh. I have a some list of bugs if you would like them.
