Hi! I have been out of loop regarding flashcards for the Switch for a while now.

How likely is it for flashcards, like the MIG, to work on the Switch 2? If I understood correctly, the MIG Switch 100% seems like a normal gamecard for the Switch 1. So there is basically no way to block it on the Switch 2 right?

Of course I am just talking about Switch 1 software. I am sure Switch 2 software will have its own security checks.

I am interested what your thoughts are on that. And sorry if this topic is already well covered somewhere else.

Just to make it easier for people who don’t want to read the whole discussion, I decided to update my thread with the latest information we have. Please note that I’m not always online to update this regularly and that I’m in no way an expert on these things.

According to the MIG team, it seems they’ve already found a workaround for the MIG Switch to work on Nintendo Switch 2 systems. Apparently, no new version of the MIG hardware is needed, and a future firmware update for the MIG Switch will be available sometime soon™. They posted a video on Twitter demonstrating the MIG Switch working on a Switch 2 and also released a short statement on their website.

At the moment I wouldn't recommend to rush and buy a MIG just because of this statement. We will know early enough if they are for real.

The MIG team just released firmware update 1.2.0, which adds support for Switch 1 games on the Nintendo Switch 2. People in this forum are reporting that it works for them and that Switch 2 upgrades are functioning as well.

Keep in mind that Nintendo could block the MIG Switch again in future firmware updates. It’s also unclear whether playing games via the MIG Switch could brick your console or get it banned from online services.

❗️Users on GBATemp and Reddit are already reporting bans linked to MIG cartridge usage. Some claim they were banned even when only using their own game dumps. It remains unclear whether these bans were triggered by using the MIG Switch before the 1.2.0 firmware update (Update for the MIG itself, not for the Switch 2), or if the firmware version is irrelevant. ❗

According to Mig Flash V2 website, it's Switch 1 compatible but they don't specify if they tested it at all.

Meanwhile UnlockSwitch guys tried to visit a showcase in Paris but the security was too high to attempt a test.

The team in charge of developing MigFlash, the MigSwitch team, has just announced through their X.com profile that their workaround is indeed compatible with the Switch 2.

For this, it announces that "the compatibility of Mig Flash with Nintendo Switch 1 games on Nintendo Switch 2 is confirmed thanks to the console's backward compatibility."

Another important piece of information is that it announces that a new Mig Dumper (or a firmware update, this remains to be specified) is being developed, in order to potentially allow the saving of Switch 2 games.

Of course, until the console is officially in the hands of users and owners of MigFlash, it is difficult to say that everything will work in the same way, but it is clear that this information will probably accelerate sales, given the price of the Switch 2 games, in addition taking into account the particularity of the microSD Express.

It would be interesting if the MIG Flash (or a MIG Flash 2) would be able to also emulate the Game Key Cards, allowing you to store all your Game Key Card titles on one cart. Considering you need the Game Key Card inserted to play the downloaded game the MIG Flash could be a convenient way to access all your Game Key Card games without having to swap the carts all the time. Plus, if the Game Key Cards are just license files I can't imagine they'd be very large in size, so you should be able to store a ton of them on a small micro SD.

It is 50%-50% because of untested and it is not known if Nintendo patch the Lotus (cartridge slot to read the gamecard), also even if it isn't patched, Switch 2 may come with newer OS that has better detection system to detect if it is MIG, so they can ban the console or more worse, console and Nintendo account ban like Sony did with PS3/PS4/PS5 and your PSN account.

I'm not going to risk myself, tho.

You all buy your systems through legit sources.
I never bought a brand new console that I plan to hack, I buy used ones from people.
That way I have an extra protection from any liability that may come my way.
There is no receipt and not 1 ounce of proof where I got my console from.
THIS SWITCH 2 WILL BE MINE TO DO WHATEVER THE HELL I WANT WITH AND NINTY CAN FUCK THE FUCK OFF!!!!

It looks like they updated the Lotus (cartridge slot) to make as inoperable for MIG.

MIG could try to fix via patch in flashcart and if not work, they would have to make a new hacking to get work with Switch 2.

Cmon guys, this can't be that hard to test. None of ya'll have a mig switch and express microsd in Austrailia/China/Europe?

Apparently works with a express microsd
I don't see how that would matter, the switch won't know what kind of card is in the mig as it shouldn't even know the mig is not a genuine game card. All these questions should be answered after systems start getting delivered anyway.

I am in line at bestbuy. I plan to open and update my switch 2 in the parking lot before testing it with my MIG. I made sure to use a clean game copy which has never been duplicated before in the mig to make sure they aren't just blocking common cartridge identifiers.

Check my profile in 2 hours to know if it works. It does not work
