could you explain what addresses you used to properly block the updates? I have seen many different suggestions on this.

I forget without looking it up on my home configuration. There was a thread on here either under the flashcard section or tutorials section stepping through the process. Keep in mind it only works at home. If you connect up at a friends house or pass by a Nintendo Zone you can still download the update if your system is in sleep mode.

No trivial way to remove updates without essentially reimplementing part of recovery mode...

Some files also get permanently replaced (different name and different contents) just by getting the nag!

I've not tried it, but what if one simply installed the CVer/NVer CIAs from 9.6? Would that make the system not bother nagging you (at least until 9.7/whatever the next update is comes out)?

So I guess there is no easy way to get rid of nag then in emuNAND
Not looking good. I formatted my emunand this afternoon and we will see if that does indeed wipe out the nag by tomorrow. Of course when if I restore the backup I will get the nag back. :( I only have a few cias and hardly and save data so I may just start fresh on mine. My boys would kill me if I wiped any of their data. :)

This is NOT guaranteed. Nintendo changed encryption again so it re-hashes everytime the console boots. Not easily worked around since it directly affects emuNAND.

Thor, I would recommend restoring your emuNAND partition to a backup and then blocking Nity update servers in your router.

Doesn't that only affect New 3DS?

Rxtools has already made it.
You can boot into emunand9.6.0-24 using Rxtools.
I think Gateway would make it soon, no matter by re-engineering other's code or work it out by themself.

With the new update I am sure I am not the only one who screwed up and left emunand connected to the net in sleep mode.

Blowing up emunand by formatting it or restring from a backup with emunand tool will do it but will also require reinstalling all the cia files and either loosing the saves or extracting them with SDF.

Is there a better way?

Oops, yeah. I forgot about this, mine has been sitting in sleep mode for the last week in emunand. Surely Gateway will release an update with 9.6 emunand support soon?
I also think I took an emunand backup very recently anyway. I guess I could always restore that.

Really depends at what the update check actually looks at. If it's ONLY looking at the version number, and not trying to match checksums of some/all of the files, then yes that should (at least in theory) do it.

Only for original, not New

if you block the update im ppretty sure you wont be able to play online or update games but then again cant realy do any of that right now anyway the blocking guides are in the wifi section cia save files are stored on the 3ds sd card so they should work after installing a emunad backup

If you are scared I suggest backing up your emunand right now for safety. I backed up mine about an hour ago just in case. You never know.

Try deleting your internet connections and rebooting. That usually deletes it for me. probably something about not trusting offline updates maybe?

It's weird. You need like 3 hands to do it.

Hold down A, R, L and UP on the D-Pad. And then press power while you continue to hold those buttons.

It helps if you can have someone else press power for you.

I misunderstood. I thought there was more of a process to it other than the button combo and then hitting cancel. You do have to kind of crab-claw your way to the menu though, that's for sure.

Thank you though.

A classic move. The 3DS Reach Around. :)

I'm curious why nobody with a hardware nand mod has dumped the nand before and after the nag, and done a file comparison yet to see where this fucker downloads to, so we can pinpoint the exact file and delete it with a file manager.
I suspect because it is not a file in the folder structure but resides in the actual emunand partition.

This works for me, but it blocks eShop entirely and probably also multiplayer (miiverse still works OTOH):

Note that conntest must be ALLOWED if you want to use WiFi on your 3DS at all.
