I can confirm the disc update contains 5.4.0.

You should be able to play super mario maker on 5.3.2. At least that was the version of the demo consoles running mario maker at SDCC 2015. Maybe I'm wrong since I'm talking about a demo game.Don't Play Super Mario Maker on 5.3.2 version!
