What in the name of fuck has happened to battle mode? :O
Are they planning to release those maps as DLC or something?
Not certain, yet

Also what's that star icon with +-button after every race?

Add / remove of your favourite marikart movie Highlights of your race

I noticed with gamepad I can shake controller like with Wii version and Wiimote. Can't seem to be able to change direction though?
?

After playing so much Sonic Racing Transformed on PC I must admid Mario Kart 8 seems much easier even with 150cc indeed. Maybe for simple fact that speed is quite low and that may be for motion controls.
Adapting to player skills would mean rubberbanding that AI simply would cheat and teleport nearer you and getting better items instead of random ones which nobody likes. Single player is just there to familiarize yourself to tracks and getting unlocks anyway and with multiplayer nobody wants AI to win.
Try 150 cc, you will weep... Also the tracks change accordingly,
and a.i. will make use of the available shortcuts ( sercet or not )
Overall the a.i. is very good in this game, very human like.
Boost and jumps have been removed from some places etc in 150 CC and Mirror.
Sonic & allstars racing I threw to in my bin.
What;s with the fuzzy look, blurry and sub par framerates.
Mariokart looks so much better and irunning at a solid 60fps!
Above all the game is so damn dull.
Also the timetrail is broken and can never be beat 100%.

Mariokart 8 is deeper than ever:
Now there are multiple kinds of speed boost at the start of a race by holding the accelerate button
Before there was only ONE kind of this speedboost. ( Yes! )
This is also dependent of character and vehicle combi now.

3 levels of drift speedboost: Bleu, orange, red.

Items reapear faster now. ( Yes ! )
Getting offtrack Placing back on track is faster ( Yes! )

Removal of auto drifting ( YES! )
Drifting is more essential than ever ( takes more skill )

Tracks are shorter there for the multiplayer is far more hecting, bouncing against each other is a very nice addition to the gameplay. ( who will get the fastest boost?, lol )
Items are more balaced. The horn is a welcome addition. ( Against bleu shell )
Drafting requires more skill because now you need to be very, very close behind your opponent to draft f. If you do it, it is more rewarding than ever though. ( Takes more skill than before )

Option to serve your own public room with all options of weapons or no weapons. ( Yes! )
Ghosts from Friends can be downloaded from the Timetrials best time roster.
If you beat your friend , you get the option to send a message, afterwards automaticly.
Miiverse and Youtube upload available for ghost timetrails. ( Awesome )

All, in all they've tweaked a lot in the gameplay, and the game feels smoother thatn ever.
Once you get to the point of trying to get the best time on the tracks you start to notice and appreciate the track layout.
It is SUBLIME! Very very good track layout.

What I like the most about this game is that it is for casual players but can be for HARDCORE players just as well.
And above all it is addicting as HELL!

I play PC version so not that kind of problems, good playerbase and devs have listened problems game has. Also it was 20€ title and has been for 4€ for X number of times where MK8 is 60€ in most places. However they did lock it to 60 FPS as they didn't know how to fix popping with higher frame rate so I can't get full advantage of 144Hz monitor :(

With gamepad shake I meant when I jump from some ramp I can simply shake gamepad and it gives boost. Someone said earlier the way you shake wiimote at that point changes direction of flip but I can't manage it with gamepad - only front flips.

The story about the Wiimote is wrong.
Also it's not about hrtz.
60 frames per second is as smooth as a game can be really, anything above you will not notice.
Please note that most games run at 35 fps.
Mariokart is a technical marvel compared to sonic & allstars racing on WiiU.

drifting is still auto you just hold left/right and the boost builds up?
and gamefaqs will disagree that items are more balanced since they keep getting coins :P

Somehow it doesn't piss me off half as much as snaking did on MKDS, but yeah they need to patch that shite soon as (along with the duplicate frame judder, though that's not really as important)
Dude, it's an occasional drop to 59fps. It's not a big deal. Who even notices that in a fast paced game? Only people who just like to complain care about that.

By the way, I made this:

Give over.... :P Once seen it cannot be unseen! Seriously though, I don't notice it myself when playing - you're bang on the mark there, but it's definitely noticeable when watching others play, particularly in single player.
...Plus, although they've been quiet on this site about it, the anti-Nintendo group have been having a field day..... Like I said it's hardly that important, but if/when patched, it'll shut 'em up! ;)

You sir have no idea what you are talking about. I know most console games run at 30 FPS and that's what makes me sad as I can't choose between graphics and smoothness on consoles where with computer I can easily turn settings down to make game run smoother. It has gotten to point where I prefer older versions of games for simple fact they are more playable because of higher frame rate or just simply get PC version.
60Hz display means it can only show you 60 FPS and with 144Hz display it can show 144 FPS, pretty simple and more frames means it's smoother. I didn't believe over 60 FPS would make much difference but after seeing one 144Hz monitor I just had to get one. With Lightboost enabled it's smoother than any CRT in history. "Human eyes can't see over X number of frames" is just myth and should die as human is analog living being, difference gets smaller higher we go but it's still there. Same with resolution where some say human eyes can't difference 720p and 1080p...

Sorry this got bit PC master race thing :P On Wii U yeah Sonic Racing Transformed wasn't technically that good but again Mario Kart 8 they only needed to focus on Wii U where Sonic was released on every platform including mobile phones and microwaves and like I said before cost were under half what Mario Kart was even on launch.

I've searched, but can't notice it. I've never watched somebody else play though. I'm content with 30fps (can't take anything lower than that though), so anything above that is just wonderful.
your too late there's hundreds of them vids on youtube already :P
I know there are plenty of MK vids, but I haven't seen any like mine.

Well there is a little bit of truth to it. It all depends on the person. Some people really can't. Some can barely see over it. And some (apparently you) can really tell the difference.

ok but it's gonna freeze at some point and the worst thing is you won't know when...it's completely random. that's why i sold all my lego games on the wiiu and i'm not playing them again. they use 1 engine to make them and have never solved a fatal flaw in it causing the freeze it usually happens after you've completed the main story that's when it started to do it for me. so just be prepared.

anyway back on topic....

So far it hasn't frozen and at work when they had it it didn't froze either, so it doesn't necessarily happen to a lot of Wii U consoles really.

Yeah, I hate that all Lego games play exactly the game but this one at least tries to be more different from the other Lego titles by being a sandbox game-type. I sure as hell will not be buying another Lego game because it feels like I'm just playing the same game reskinned.

Heck, Lego Star Wars on NGC doesn't feel too much different from LCU.

MK8 Retains UK #2 spot, despite a new multi-format release, and the World Cup starting this week (I was expecting the game to creep up the charts as a result). Impressive!

I use Firehopping and this was most likely made to be used just like Snaking, but in this case it's entirely optional so not a requirement whether you have to use or not, of course if you don't want to be at the back you'll sure as hell use it!

This game is addictive..! Even though I get my ass kicked online from time to time..

That's the fun part and even more is when you get hit by your own items, i.e, throw the bomb and then it ruins you too. :P

I have one of those 144 hertz monitors, dude.
I also have a 600hz tv.

ALL BULLSHIT.
Just a method of adding artificial frames between the source of input.
Yes, this will make your visual experience smoother.
This is one of the shortcoming of modern displays. The leds, crystals cannot keep up in real time.
Therefor they invented signal processing, deinterlacing, framebuffer to make up for the crap blurring you see on "normal "Ffatpanels".

144Hz is a gimmic for gaming. 120Hz is plenty. As for 144Hz for 3D vision (the extra 12FPS for each eye over 120Hz), if you use it sure, but 3D vision is crap for 90% of people (headaches, nausea after short amounts of time, unrealistic 3D etc)
NOW, if you were talking about input lag or "processing lag"....

Before you ask, I work at R&D of a big manufacturer of these panels.

Not having that problem.

Zavvi has my order on Processing so I hope they get new copies stock soon enough as I wanna play this game sometime this week, Thursday would be ideal as that's my day off but I expect to not be that soon.

By the way, anyone here from UK want to the Mario Kart 8 code for a swap of Rayman Legends or a different Wii U game? As soon as I get it I'd dispatch it.
