Mario Kart 8 Deluxe trailer showcases new features and game modes

Nintendo of Japan has put out a six minute trailer that shows off all the new additions that Mario Kart 8 Deluxe will be getting on the Nintendo Switch. All the tracks and characters from the Wii U version and its DLC will be included, as well as new additions such as Dry Bones, King Boo, Bowser JR, and Splatoon's squid characters. There will also be a beginner mode, titled Smart Steering, which prevents players from falling off the race tracks. Battles return, with brand new courses. There's also other battle games, announced first during the Switch launch reveal event, shown off in the video, such as the Piranha Plant mode, where one team has the piranha plant power-up, and must try to capture all the players who don't. Coin Battle is included as well, where you must try to collect the most amount of coins on the track before time runs out. Lastly, there's a Shine mode, which has players race across new battle stages to get all the shines hidden in the course. Lastly, one more new character will be added...in...the form of Gold Mario... Mario Kart 8 Deluxe launches worldwide on April 28 for the Nintendo Switch.

UPDATE: Ninendo of America has posted the same trailer, albeit a slight bit shorter, in English now.

Too bad its still yet another Wii U port.

There is litterally 2 Wii U ports. BOTW and MK8 Deluxe. Don't see your point.

another mario. gr8. im sick of this game. worst mk yet. i just want them to make a new one already.

Yeah. MK8 sure is worse than MK7's broken Metal Mario, MKWii's broken Funky and bikes, and MKDS's broken snaking. And sure, the 1080p gorgeous graphics are sure worse than MKDS's amazing 144p 2-polygon models. Sure.

Really? They're putting in a proper battle mode now? The thing that fans had been clamoring about through the entirety of that game's relevance on Wii U?

"What's that? You want a proper battle mode? A staple of the series up to this point? Okay, you can have it three years later, on a different full price port, on a new system you have to buy, where the new controllers you need for multiplayer are expensive."

That's were you're wrong. A vast majority of the future or current Switch buyers don't have or won't have bought MK8 Wii U before. MK8 was launched on one of the worst-selling Nintendo home consoles yet. Do you want them to say 'OK, so to play the current Mario Kart title, you'll have to buy a system that is now abandoned, has outdated HW, and was launched in 2012.' ? Or you want them to launch a third MK to manage online at once with MK8 and MK7? Come on, don't be ridiculous.

well, you got a point there, It would be nice to have a new MK since it's actually a long time since they released MK8 (almost 3 years). They better add more items an 8 player-local play.

Actually, using Japanese releases, the time seems to be quite average :
Super Mario Kart to Mario Kart 64: 4 years, 3 months, 18 days
Mario Kart 64 to Mario Kart: SC: 4 years, 7 months, 7 days
Mario Kart: SC to Mario Kart: DD: 2 years, 3 months, 17 days
Mario Kart: DD to Mario Kart DS: 2 years, 1 month, 2 days
Mario Kart DS to Mario Kart Wii: 2 years, 4 months, 3 days
Mario Kart Wii to Mario Kart 7: 3 years, 7 months, 21 days
Mario Kart 7 to Mario Kart 8: 2 years, 5 months, 28 days
Mario Kart 8 to Mario Kart 8 Deluxe: 2 years, 10 months, 30 days

Still, they actually added 8 player local play, man.

I'm really excited for this as I skipped the WiiU completely. Hopefully they bring all of the best WiiU games to Switch!
Ssme here, I was actually super happy that it got announced for the Switch because that was one of the only games that made me regret not having a Wii U

That's my point! they have enough time to make a brand new MK but choose to make a remaster instead, go figure why, cuz I dunno, but well, let's take what's there in my case, I don't know everyone else.
And good to know! this remaster perhaps it's worth the hassle.

No new tracks then?
Well, kinda. There's new tracks for the Battle Mode.

They are, apparently.
The 59fps thing? I honestly can't see what's the fuss about and I've played Mario Kart 8 since its launch on 2014. Can't wait for the Deluxe edition to be released, I'm itching to play it with the Switch Xbox One Control-- I mean, the Switch Pro Controller. :P

hmm, looks interesting, my wife likes it a lot more than I do, wish it was more than just battle courses and some new characters. I might double dip when the game gets cheaper.

How else are they gonna make money? By selling the new stuff on the new system!
indeed, cant argue with that, if they added new courses this game would be worth it imo, but right now it really is a just a sexed-up port.

Shame that Ninnty abandoned Wii U and not wanted to sell this options as a DLC for current MK. F#cken company.
The WiiU was already pretty much dead (officially) before Zelda:BotW was released for it. Nintendo did the WiiU customers a favour.

An underrated opinion: While Bluesky as a platform is better than Twitter, Bluesky's userbase won't be better than Twitter as people are saying because everyone from the non-bootleg site are moving to the bootleg one expecting for themselves to change with their attitude, but that never works like that.

I will say though: Bluesky as a micro-blogging site? Needs a bit more oomph and I would officially like it better than Twiter. Can't even post gifs on that site, like what the fuck?
