Is there a way I can get Mario and Luigi Bowser's inside Story to work without getting YSMenu or any other custom firmware or anything like that? Like a patch or a fix or something?

Nope. There is no way to run BIS on official R4 firmware. Get Wood 1.09.

Just guessing that the reason the OP doesn't want to use custom firmware is because their R4 is not original or 1:1 clone.
