I'd like to chime in and say that the cheat/patch thing floating around the web (the XPA one) did work for me on a 1.4E DSi and an Acekard 2i. European DSi updated to latest firmware, if that matters at all.

However, it only worked after I put the latest AKAIO Firmware on the card. It did not work using the official firmware (or at least not with the version I had, maybe they updated it by now). So far I've been able to play about 5 hours into the game without problems (just did the part with the Giga-Carrot or what that was) but of course I still don't take it completely for granted I won't run into any problems along the way.
I do get "flickering" on the upper screen sometimes (when I get these Special Attack puzzle pieces or when saving, for example) but it hasn't caused any problems so far. My saves are also persistent and can be loaded fine. I did play pretty much non-stop (fun game) and didn't have any freezes, glitches or bugs so far.

So, if you have an Acekard 2i and a DSi and can't seem to get it working with whatever Firmware you currently have on the card, try putting the latest AKAIO on it (I got the repacked thing from the download section here).

I also can't play Portrait of Ruins without the usual freezes on the card so it's not a particularly fast one (might be what's causing the flickering in M&L3)

Sorry if this all has been said already. I did notice some people saying it worked on their Acekard 2i, but didn't get it to work on mine. One of them said he had AKAIO though, which I didn't, so I tried it out and it did in fact work.

Yeah, I get the flickering on my AceKard2 as well, only a tiny annoyance though. The game's great, hope Mario and Luigi don't spend too much time stuck in Bowser though, might get a bit samey.

With that being said here's my 2 cents I have an r4isdhc white screen/dont work but on my laptop I can play
the patched rom and the clean rom just fine and 55frames out of 60 no noticable lag and saves just fine...

Well okay ninty has heavily protected this game and with all the whining i'm calling out the dev's on this the
emu I'm using is desmuemu 0.9.4 like i said above... So why not port desmuemu to ds yeah i know it sounds
silly but you'd have everything you need the hardware power etc... just like a flash cart basically emulates a
real ds cart.... You wouldnt have to configure anything keys, graphic sound or microphone because it's all there
all you would have to do is load the emu from a flashcart example desmuemu.nds then select the game and
it should work right... the only reason I am saying this is because the clean xpa-mal3.nds and the xpa-mal3.nds
cracked rom works fine on desmuemu no freezing or glitching and I use a real microphone on my laptop
and it's just fine... But the main point is how desmuemu loads and runs this game there has to be a difference
in the way it does and how the flashcarts do but they require patching or AR code and this does not this would
be great if that could be done then there would no more whining when it come to piracy protection games
and ninty would scratch their heads how do i block an emu within a flash cart...

So in other words why not make a desmuemu launcher for flashcarts that lauches protected games without
hassle... Think of it like this ok bowser inside story doesnt run on r4,dstt menu etc okay launch desmuemu
.nds then select bowser inside story and bam it works then once loaded have fun etc saves should work fine
desmuemu auto detects all the saves sizes just like flashcarts already coded into it etc... It's like putting
the ds or dsi into test mode like a ps3 debug where there are no checks etc this would be sweet well that's
my idea and it sounds better than another menu for all the non working cards I think it would be harder
for ninty to block an emu from a flash card theyd really have to probe at it and it would be harder if the
developer encrpterd the emu once compiled etc...

Well that's my idea to this protection crap well dont get me wrong my laptop runs it so atleast i can play
it but not everyone has a dual or phenom laptop or pc with decent graphics card to handle it....

To anyone with a decent pc or laptop on desmuemu 0.9.4 use soft rasptner on 3d graphics, frameskip to
limited and at 1 if you use 0 it will run but the music is slow but at 1 frameskip and limit it will run like
visual boy advance did before you set it triple buffering i get 55fps and that's smooth enough....

Ok devs take a look please give feedback let's get this thing back under control pirates vs ninty ninjas...

I wish I knew how to develop and compile to port this thing to dsi dslite dsphatt...........

I think it would be far more realistic to find out HOW desmume works with M & L then fix it straight on DS. Porting over a DS emulator from PC probably wouldn't work. if everyone just sits tight there will be a fix. it's just a mattter of time

There will be, just like Leo said. Somehow on another forum, there's another Team who is working on compatiblity(Spelling?) with R4 and M3. So, don't ask any more of these "When does R4 patch comes out?" Something like that.

I sure hope that's not whining. I hate whining. You waited all this time for the game to be dumped, I'm sure you can wait a few extra days for good, hardworking hackers to make a patch for you. At least they're making a patch.

Hey, I have a R4 and I'm not crying a river over not being able to play this. I can wait. So, for all you not being able to play it, then boo-hee-fucking-doo. If you really want the game, wait for it to come out and buy it. Otherwise, stop bitching about it not working, creating a million useless threads complaining about it, and getting angry because you there's no patch out. Sheesh, it's annoying.

Otherwise, wondering if this game will be good. I thought all the other M&L RPG games sucked major balls so my hopes aren't exactly high as a kite right now.

As a side note, I'm looking forward to this game for the sole reason that I want to find all those brown boots I've lost in Bowser's backside over the last 2 decades.

Here's a suggestion: let's close this thread until an actual patch (that'll work for just about everyone, mind) comes out, then make a thread about that. In the meantime, let's all play something else, like one of the earlier M&L games. We all want to play this game, but griping and whining isn't going to make the patch happen any quicker, and neither will starting new threads about it. So just sit tight and hope for the best, okay?

I know I'm a stupid newbie and all, but I had to chime in; this thread was turning out like every other one like it on the internet, and those threads aren't going anywhere either. I'll shut up now.

I'm using a CycloDs Evolution Firmware 1.55 and am over 4 hours in. The game has frozen at certain save blocks but I am able to use real time save before this to counter. The game is great and is playable on the CycloDs. You have to be on the map screen to access the CycloDs menu in-game. Hope this helps. I am using the AR code to get past the save select screen.
