“DSTWO iPlayer” is a media player for DSTWO. It full use the
internal cpu of DSTWO, so you can play RMVB/AVI/FLV and etc video format files
and MP3/APE/FLAC and etc audio files directly with DSTWO, no converting
anymore!

<b>How to install:</b>

Download and unzip, then copy “DSTWO iPlayer” and
“_dstwoplug” folders to the root of your microsd card.
Note: you can put media files anywhere you want.
</div>

Supercard team just release their promise Dstwo movie player that utilizes the hardware CPU to play RMVB/AVI/FLV files in your NDS so I have taken some time to test out this new video viewing option in the DSTWO.

<!--coloro:#FF0000--><span style="color:#FF0000"><!--/coloro-->First thing i will test the claim RMVB/AVI/FLV/MKV/WMV/MP4/ playback. NOTE i use my converter default settings for each file so don't nag <!--colorc--></span><!--/colorc-->

Videos in the below video are running in 320X 240

<object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/EDoYT6KEzxU&rel=1"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/EDoYT6KEzxU&rel=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object>

Well i know i dint test all the possible ways but for what i can see 720 X 480 and below resolutions seen to be the best way to go and i know that what they say in the site but i have to test anyway the video playbacks when it works is ok but you can get almost the same if not equal from Dpg4 using moonshell it says it plays MP4 but the wont show you have to change the file extension to avi for them to work so that is kind of retarded anyway i still prefer moonshell DPG4 cuz i already haves lots of videos in that but the fact that this thing was able to play a video i downloaded from a torrent site without any converting made me want to use it as much as dpg and that picture of the ironman movie in 720p is bullshit i think it can play it but is unwatchable.

<!--coloro:#FF0000--><span style="color:#FF0000"><!--/coloro-->Now i will be testing the Music files playback that they say this can play
MP3/WMA/APE/FLAC.<!--colorc--></span><!--/colorc-->

<!--coloro:#00BFFF--><span style="color:#00BFFF"><!--/coloro-->
Results Plays ok.<!--colorc--></span><!--/colorc-->

<object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/d2v6Wn6qcc8&rel=1"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/d2v6Wn6qcc8&rel=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object>

Well as you can see the audio players play what it say it can play but not only that i notice that it can play more audio format that the ones mention like real-audio Ect.

OK now i will be testing the subtitle video function thing this thing cant play the subtitle file that must MKV files have inside so you have to get the file out and convert it to .srt and name it the same as the video them put it along side the video for it to play.

As we all know .srt is not use anymore the standard seem to be .ass
so i converted the .ass file to .srt see the video below.

<object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/D5d4u1c5-y4&rel=1"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/D5d4u1c5-y4&rel=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object>

The subs work but they wont show all is like they wont fix inside the screen you can see part of the sentence going off screen so is not that good the subtitles are by default white but you can change the color of them if you want.

Well after doing all that i try other things like making play a dpg file i change the file extension from dpg to avi to if it would play and all i got was the sound playback but no video so i cant re sue my dpg with this player in the video below is what happen.
<object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/0r86dLbw3Ns&rel=1"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/0r86dLbw3Ns&rel=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object>

i think is because of the dpg codec it cant run it so it only runs the sound too bad.

After that i try to compare it to Moonshell playback below are the videos
<object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/aofUopqmINI&rel=1"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/aofUopqmINI&rel=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object><object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/1nPbyhBhtX8&rel=1"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/1nPbyhBhtX8&rel=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object>
below are the parameters that i use for the videos that i am comparing

DPG4
Resolution 256 X 144
Video codec MPEG-1
Bit-Rate 512k
Sound Codec Mp2
Sample Rate 32000
Sound Bit-Rate 160k

Avi
Resolution 624 X 512
Video codec MPEG-4
Bit-Rate 1099k
Sound Codec Mp3
Sample Rate 48000
Sound Bit-Rate 125k

they look similar but i kind of notice a little more detail in the Iplayer one and the color are a little more vivid and so you know i dint convert the episode of southpark the iplayers is running i downloaded it strait from the internet to my SD card so thats a win for the iplayer i that part .

Hey, could you try some 320x240-sized files? I'd like to see if they run better and prettier than other formats before I take the time to down-convert.

Also, what's the strange flapjack-like cartoon? XD

Ah, allright, thanks a lot. I'll get my DSTWO on monday because I missed the mail today when it came XP

So by the time I've got everything else set up perhaps I'll see what that size looks like.

How does it perform when not rescaling? As in, when playing a video that is resized to fit in 256x192 (the individual resolution of each screen)? Does it still lag? Etc, etc.

I hear it just looks like a DPG. No lag but ugly and pixelly.

Dunno about standard porable res (320x240) yet tho, that's why I asked for a test of some

It looks a bit better than DPG, but not by much.
Sound is way better than with DPG though.

I just tried playing this FLV video on the DStwo iPlayer and it failed to playback, you could seek frames and see still images, but the video refused to play.

It was this video.

If it's an FLV downloaded straight from youtube, I'd assume that during the conversion process it'd all end up being the same codec anyway.

    There was a comparison of the number of Ibuprofen poisonings before and after they limited the maximum dosage per box or per pill (i'll look that up). No limit on the number of boxes you can still buy as many as you want, so people argued it was pointless.
  • Veho @ Veho:
    But the number of (accidental) poisonings dropped because drinking an entire package of ibuprofen pills went from "I need a new liver" to "I need a new box of Ibuprofen".
  • Veho @ Veho:
    Here we have ketoprofen that used to be prescription-only because of the risk of toxic dosages, but then they halved the dose per pill and sell them in bottles of six pills apiece instead of twenty and it doesn't need a prescription any more. Yes you can buy more than one bottle but people simply don't.
