Depends on what you do, if you don't format (or resize, not sure if resing would harm those partitions) the partitions there should be no problems. As for using the partitions afterwords depending on what filesystem they are mounting should be easy (NTFS might not be easy to set up, never tried with ubuntu before but FAT should work easy peasy).

before resizing anything be sure to defrag the existing partitions first.
(when people don't do this they risk loosing the entire hard drive)

So long as you don't resize the partitions to smaller then the amount of space currently in use you shouldn't loose any data.

I am not sure what affects moving a partition has on your data so until you figure that out I would suggest not moving the beginning of each partition

In my experiences, it;s the other way around. Just install the 3g-ntfs module (I think it's called something like that) if it isn't installed by default...

Agree: Ubuntu is great, but upgrading from Feisty Fawn to Gutsy Gibbon has done nothing but make my system a lot slower and crashier

I feel bad having to say this about a system I love so much.

Metroid_Phobia, that is a completely unfair comparison. You've got a really nice, high-res image of Vista with all the menus and windows open, then a small, artifacted image of Ubuntu's desktop.

Don't blame me, blame my lack of looking for more than 5 minutes on Google

Its good to see more people using Linux, Ubuntu isn't my cup of tea but if it gets more people into Linux thats great.

No he's right, FAT is a lot easier to setup than ntfs, thats because ntfs is a proprietary filesystem and most of the drivers need to be reverse engineered. Its ntfs-3g btw

Choosing an operating system based on appearance leads me to think you're an idiot.

Especially when Linux is so non-functional and difficult to use.

I'm not going to use Linux but i just became a little bored with XP.
I'll get sick of Linux in a while too however its non-functionality doesn't bother me since I probably wouldn't be in need of such functionalities. I'm too busy for PC gaming and practically a noob at nearly anything else concerning computers.
That doesn't mean I'm not computer-literate however.
I was just curious and a little bored.

Ok, but no matter what the open-tards and Linux fanboys say, Linux is NOT ready for the desktop and won't be for a long, long time. It's ok to experiment with other OS's but personally, if you are using anything that isn't a Mac, unfortunately Windows is the only real viable choice, and if you have the money, go get yourself a Mac.
