Misc LAN problem?

I recently bought a ds lite and an r4 card, and yesterday when i tried to play locally with my friends, it didn't work. We tried a variety of games, but i somehow couldn't sense that a group was created or something. However, if i try to play with an actual game card, that works just fine. Does anyone know what the problem is?

What game were you using? Some games just don't like to work with multi-card play... I can't get New Super Mario Bros. to work. Hopefully will be fixed with the next firmware update. *crosses fingers*

I tried brain academy and new super mario bros. My friends also uses r4 cards, but they somehow got theirs to work. Is this because i have a more recent ds than them? theirs is about 9 months old...
