Linux (and any other OS that's not the console's native one) on a console has never been of interest for me.
You are basically running another Operating System on the console, which is not the goal of homebrew.
Overriding the console's OS with another one and running apps which we already know run on that OS seems like a cheap way to run things on the Switch to me, where's the fun in that?
I'd much rather have Switch homebrew apps than another OS in it, but that's just me.

which wont be possible without having any kind of gpu drivers... look at the plutoo or daeken (schala) port and you will see nobody is working on it anymore

Because it doubles the effort. Not in coding (Watch this youtube video, of me launching a program I installed in linux), but in support.

I'm very much looking forward to a doubled effort in support.

(Thats the ecosystem play - you see SciresM say that they are working on hopefully designing an ecosystem - then you see three rando-coders running in waving their hands with untested halfbaked ports to launch HBL, and a video of someone installing a program on linux. Then ten people say its an amazing development, and then nothing happens - because thats the likely extent of where this will go. Unless it isn't. ;) )

how many weeks did we try to code a simple media player for HBL it never worked and why because nobody gave an rats ass to help , and the reason i was showing kodi is to show what could happen to the switch in near future , so dont cause this thread to go into drama

Fair point to an extent can see where you are going with this, but in terms of expectations people should be able to differentiate.
I don't feel showing what Linux can do, takes away from the hard work coding on the homebrew side though.

All efforts should be respected, the more content shown of what the system is capable of. The more everyone can get fired up about it and do/appreciate more.

After lurking for a good while. I see too many put downs and not enough encouragement by a select few. A few of these designing on said ecosystem, may have begun as rando-coders as you have put it. Respect room to grow we all want to see the capabilities and routing for the same untapped potential here.

If that was the intent, its entirely fine. I was unsure to post the comment, as I did. But its grounded in some truth at least.. ;) We don't have droves of people seeing the releases of the hekate builds as their entry point, so overall "showing whats possible" is fine at this stage. No drama. :)

The thing with highlighting linux binaries is, that they are linux binaries. :) As long as you don't have a person attached they are "cross your fingers and hope it works" kind of plays... :)

Kodi is actually one of the main things I want out of Switch homebrew, so this is awesome news, and sound support seems to be on the horizon too. Can't be bothered to carry a tablet around with me when my phone does all the same things, but the Switch I'm often carrying with me anyway, and being able to play videos on a larger screen would be great for when I'm not at home for a few days.
I am going to wait a bit longer though until the battery issues with Linux are sorted out. Don't want to mess up my Switch.

I wonder if we could extend the battery life further though. 3-3.5 hours (what you will normally get playing Switch games) really isn't much for video playback, especially not on a long plane trip. If we could double that by underclocking the CPU (GPU is already pretty heavily underclocked) that would be a much more reasonable battery life for video watching. It shouldn't affect video playback since that's hardware accelerated, so we should be able to get away with a pretty heavy underclock just for Kodi. For comparison the original single-core 600Mhz Raspberry Pi played 1080p in Kodi just fine thanks to hardware decoding, the X1 should have even better hardware deciding abilities seeing as it was made for Android originally. UI was a bit sluggish, but completely usable, and with more cores that should be a non issue.

I don't think the CPU is going to be the battery hog for that, it will be the display just like on phones.

True, the screen is a huge battery hog as well, but it's not the only thing that matters. Every Android device I've owned has had terrible battery life in games, but decent battery life in more general use, (video watching and web browsing)
I believe that's largely thanks to the CPU governor in Android clocking the CPU down aggressively when maximum performance isn't needed. That seems to be a Linux feature so it's possible that Switch Linux already does this so it wouldn't be a problem.
I wonder if anyone's tested battery life in Switch Linux...
