I wonder if the game will have anything added compared with the Japanese version..
unsure.gif

To everyone: you can't even compare this to 358/2 Days. it's waaaaaay better.
The gameplay. the diversity. the minigames. the level up system. it's all improved GREATLY.

The story.. not so much. until the last two worlds it feels like a rehash of KH1. the game's good anyway

Can't wait for US release

Does anyone know if you have to use the R or L buttons for anything important? Or can you go through the whole game without them?

They were definitely required for 358/2 days, so I expect them to be needed in this as well. And I don't think you can change the control scheme.

Edit: The R button was used for dashing and gliding. Dashing is useless, but you can't get to some places without Gliding, so you'd be stuck.

Edit 2: See below post.

Its usually for something generic.

like what basher11 and 30084pm said.

Camera, deck scrolling, menu scrolling, etc.

Actually, I'm wrong. You don't need the L or R buttons because they're just used for camera and targetting controls.

So its like KH1...

I've already played the Japanese version of Recoded. Your enjoyment of it will depend on whether you think the KH series is more focused on story or on gameplay.

Story wise, it's basically throwaway and almost completely useless. Tons of filler, moreso than any other game in the series. There's actually only a few minutes of relevant information to the series as a whole. Specifically, the secret ending. Most other questions were already addressed either in BBS or Days.

You'll want to play ReCoded because of the gameplay. It has some of the best refinements yet seen in the series. Deck command system is awesome. The controls are extremely tights, despite not having an analog stick. And the camera is probably the best in the series. Combat is great too in general, against helped along by the deck system. Platforming also makes a welcome return. Whereas KH1's platforming was awkward and frustrating thanks to horrid controls and camera problems, ReCoded has none of those issues and further refined platforming. Of course, a lot of the platforming is "artificial" per say, being provided by the bug blocks, but it's very fun regardless and controls great for once. The only thing about the gameplay that's a little hit or miss are the minigames in each world. Every world has a little minigame based off popular game genres (like auto scrolling 2D platforming, or turn based rpg battles). They don't dominate the game, but some of them aren't that great.

And i have to say something else- i'd have found it extremely difficult, if not impossible to play Days without the shoulder buttons. In ReCoded though, it's much more of a requirement to have working shoulder buttons. L in particular is used for scrolling through the command list.

@Arithmatics

Hardly like KH1. Shoulder buttons were used for camera controls alone IIRC. And scrolling through the menu was done via the dpad or right analog. The fundamental gameplay mechanics and command list have changed drastically since KH1. Days plays more like KH1 in terms of the controls. ReCoded, not so much.

I am hyped to pirate this. I've enjoyed every single Kingdom Hearts game I've played, but pirated BBS since I don't own a PSP.

It's per se, not per say :>.

Okay...
That doesn't make any sense.

Unless you like to have it laying around your HDD for no reason other than just having it.

BBS is in the beginnings of running on the PSP emulator JPCSP. It's only half playable, slow, and needs a ton of work. But it's definitely getting there. So having it saved to your HDD wouldn't be such a bad thing in the coming new year. I'd expect it to be working fairly well soon enough.

not too excited for kingdom hearts anymore only exception would be kingdom hearts 3
and I'll be shock if this game was dump on the release date

KH3 should just be in development. I'd rather 4 solid years on 3 instead of 8 years switching between spinoffs and the main series. Still, I'm excited for re:coded, the Japanese version was awesome

I've pre-ordered this one long after it's pre-order release on amazon lol (somewhere november).. I loved 358/2 days for the reason that
you can control the organization XIII, though I was hoping we could 'versus' each one of em lol
. I had like 100 hrs gameplay on it coz leveling to 100 is that long. I couldn't wait to try this one. If it gets dump early, I would probably play it. I will get my retail copy anyways.

P.S. can't wait to see glimpse of KHIII! though that might take longer!

I've beaten the Japanese version of Re:coded and wasn't impressed. It's pretty much just a filler game and the only reason it's being brought to America is for Square to rake in more money, but that's obvious. I'm not entirely sure why everyone hated 358/2 so much but, to me, it's way better than Re:coded. Re:coded was honestly a waste of time to me, and like some of the earlier posts stated, there's only one or two good plot points shown throughout the entirety of the game. For the most part, the game is just half of KH1, with a modified BBS combat system. Go through it if you want, or if you're a KH fanboy like me, but don't hold your breath.

I agree with what people say about this game being a slight re-hash of KH1. They should have just ported the original game. This shows the DS could handle it if they don't use FMVs.

The secret ending of Re:coded has me creeped out.
I never expected that Master Xehanort would come back (Hate that dude)

I'm excited for KH3D, but I'd like to know the details. Doesn't trust KH wiki.

At least re:coded has an upgraded graphical engine over Days, Sora doesn't look distorted.
