Gaming Jump Ultimate Stars makes ZERO sense to me, someone give tips

I tried Jump Ultimate Stars and I heard it's kind've like SSB but with Anime in it so I tried it today and it makes no sense to me. When I face the AI we don't have a health bar? Why can't I just pick single characters in good old fashioned 1 v 1 instead of a "Manga Deck"? Please explain this game to me!

It uses a manga deck which you can customize to add more charecters and support charecters and etc. haven't you played through the tutorial world yet? that should explain everything.

if you want 1vs1, just make some single-character decks.
and your healthbar is the color of your character, less color=less health.
