@everyone great work on the encyclopaedia so far.

@nels have a read back of the last 2 or three pages and you will see short descriptions of the manga/anime contained in the game. If you want to do one for prince of tennis/whatever you prefer to call it then there is an opening.

Name: Eyeshield 21
Genre: Sports, Shonen, Comedy
Eyeshield 21 (??????21) is a manga about American football written by Riichiro Inagaki and illustrated by Yusuke Murata. The story revolves around Sena Kobayakawa, a weak, and bullied boy, whose only special qualities are his running speed and maneuverability, which he earned from doing errands for the aforementioned mentioned bullies. Sena begins his high school years at Deimon Private Senior High School.
American football team captain Yoichi Hiruma notices Sena's running gifts, and then forces Sena to join the team (Deimon Devil Bats) as the running back. Sena begins his high school years at Deimon Private Senior High School, along with his childhood friend, Mamori Anezaki, who is one year older than him, and who acts as his motherly figure during school hours. (To Sena's embarrassment)
To protect his identity from the other school sports teams that may want to recruit his ungodly speed, Sena assumes the role of the team secretary, and enters the field wearing a helmet equipped with a green-tinted eyeshield in order to hide his face and features under the alias of "Eyeshield 21." Many laughs are included in this comedic series, including Sena assuming the role of both team Manager and Eyeshield 21 at the same time, the colorful characters, each team unique and different in its own way, and the pure ignorance some of the characters have.

The later iteration.

Hmmm... How about this format for the final style of the encyclopedia entry:

Name: Eyeshield 21
Genre: Sports, Shonen, Comedy
Number of Volumes: 27; Completed series: No
General Audiance: All ages although some innuendo and profanity (depending on translation) occur.
Overview: Eyeshield 21 (??????21) is a manga about American football written by Riichiro Inagaki and illustrated by Yusuke Murata. Extra: It has been adapted into an anime movie in 2004 , an anime television series in 2005, which is scheduled to air in the United States on Toonami Jetstream sometime in the Fall of 2007. The twenty seven volumes have sold over sixteen million copies in Japan, and the number of children playing American football in Japan has almost doubled in the four years since Eyeshield 21 began.

Name: I''S
Genre: Teen Drama/Romance, Somewhat Ecchi, Harem
Number of Volumes: 15; Completed series: Yes
General Audience: Older Teens. Many for sexual purposes.
Overview:
The story revolves around sixteen-year-old high school student Ichitaka Seto who is in love with his classmate, and school idol, Iori Yoshizuki, but too shy to tell her. He repeatably plans to tell her his true feelings, but each time something (usually a some sort of comical misunderstanding) gets in the way. Things become even more wacky and confusing for Ichitaka when Itsuki Akiba, a former childhood friend who moved to America and who had a huge crush on him, returns to Japan.
Extra: There also to I''s OVAs released in 2002, and a new six-part OVA, called "I"s Pure", was released in 2005 and 2006. Neither OVA has been officially released in English [As of September 2007], but both do have fansubs online.

Name: Ichigo 100%
Genre: Ecchi, Comedy, Harem
Number of Volumes: 19; Completed series: Yes
General Audience: Teens. The story contains a lot of ecchi, and the occasional sexual innuendo.
Overview: Junpei Manaka, a weaker student with a poor grades, loves to make films, and dreams of becoming a top film director. Sneaking out of classes to the school roof, Junpei witnesses a beautiful girl falling in front of him. Before the girl flees, he catches a glimpse of her strawberry-patterned underwear, and instantly falls in love. He also believes that this scene would be perfect in a movie. Junpei now trys to find the beautiful girl, and in the process makes a girlfriend. The story continues on as many girls meat Junpei, and try everything they can to become the object of his affection.
Extra: Ichigo 100% was adapted into a 24-episode anime TV series by Madhouse. It aired across Japan on Animax and TV Asahi. The anime's story is much shorter than that of the manga. A total of 4 OVAs have been produced, these cover the storyline although non sequentially. For example OVA1 merges chapters 22 and 82.

Name: Home Tutor Hitman Reborn! (Kateky? Hittoman REBORN!/Katei Ky?shi Hittoman Reborn!)
Genre: Mafia, Action, Comedy
General Audience: Preteens and above. There is little to no ecchiness, aside from the effects of the Dying Will Bullet. (See Overview)
Number of Volumes: 16; Completed Series: No
Overview: The story revolves around Tsunayoshi "Tsuna" Sawada, who is chosen to become the mob boss of the Vongola family. Tsuna is known as "No Good Tsuna" for his poor grades, bad luck, and overall lack of athleticism. "Vongola IX," the current head and mob boss of the Vongola Family, sent Reborn to train Tsuna to become a strong new leader. Reborn is baby assassin of the Vongola family, who specializes in all types of combat. Reborn's main way of teaching Tsuna is the by using the "Dying Will Bullet" ("Deathperation Shot" in the translated versions), which will make the person regret a dying wish they haven't completed, and be "Reborn"Â with a boost of Valor and Strength. Though the gun has a comedic side effect of stripping the user down to their undergarments, along with causing a flame to emerge on their forehead. Notably, the Dying Will Bullet has different effects depending on where the user is shot. Throughout all of this, Tsuna has a crush on the school idol Kyoko, and to continually trys impress her.
Extra: The Kateky? Hitman Reborn anime series is produced by Artland. It first aired on October 7, 2006 on the Japanese network TV Tokyo.
The Anime version of the series stays true to the mangas storyline, but
it is significantly toned down than its source material (i.e. colored guns to make them seem more like toys, and bullets fire out a beam of lights rather than hit Tsuna directly).

Wasn't sure if this was ok to put in the translation page so I'll put it here for now,

here is my small contribution,

Manga: Gintama
Genre: Comedy, Science Fiction, Action
General Audience: Teens and above; for blood, innuendo, and a overall confusing storyline.
Number of Volumes: 17; Completed series: No
Overview: The story takes place in Edo (Known today as Tokyo), Japan, which has been overrun by an alien race called the Amanto since the late Edo period. The samurai of Japan have shrunk in poulation, and many of them have forgotten their old ways, as the Amanto placed a ban on carrying swords in public. The story focuses on a wacky samurai with a natural perm, Sakata Gintoki, his apprentice Shimura Shinpachi, and a teenage alien girl: Kagura. All three are "free-lancers" who search for work in order to pay the monthly rent, which usually goes unpaid anyway.
Extra: Gintama has a long running Anime series, with one short OVA. Gintama is also a series that becomes funnier as you broaden your background of manga, as it has numberous amounts of parodies and references.

Name of series: Kinnikuman
Genre: Action, Comedy, Wrestling, Sports
Number of Volumes: 36. Completed Series: Yes
General Audience: All ages.
Overview: Kinnikuman was originally created as a parody of Ultraman, a clumsy, foolish goof of a superhero was only called upon to battle monsters if no other superheroes were around.
As Kinnikuman grew, it began to develop into a manga about professional wrestling in which Kinnikuman would wrestle parodies of popular Japanese superheroes and their villain counterparts, including "The Toilet Paper Mummy", and wrestlers based on pachinko machines and telephones. The heroes and villains of Kinnikuman were collectively referred to as "Ch?jin," (??) which literally translates to "Supermen".
Kinnikuman's powers come from eating garlic, which fill the garlic meter on his forehead until he could grow into a giant to fight the monsters. His main attack was the super powerful "Kinniku Flash" beam.
Extra: The majority of the characters were made by fans who sent in ch?jin character designs or ideas and were then incorporated into the story in various major and minor roles. One early minor character, Pandaman, was sent by Eiichiro Oda, who'se become well-known for his manga One Piece.

Name of series: Rurouni Kenshin (?????? ?????????)

Title: One Piece
Japanese Title: ?????
Genre: Adventure, Super-Human powers
Audience: Teens

One Piece is about a boy named Monkey D. Luffy. Luffy's dream is to become the Pirate King and to find the famous treasure hidden by Gold Roger: One Piece.
In the world of One Piece, there is fruit called "Devil's Fruit". When you eat a "Devil's Fruit" you get a special ability. Luffy ate the "Gomu-Gomu Fruit", which makes him a "rubberman". Because of this fruit, Luffy can stretch his limbs unnaturally far.
On his adventures, Luffy encounters many friends and foes. His crew consists of seven persons:
Roronoa Zoro, a swordsman using a very unusual fighting style called Santoryu (which means "3 swords")
Usopp, a marksman who has the habit to tell great lies. He wanted to become a pirate, because his father, Yasop, became one too.
Nami, a navigator who loves money and tangerines. Her village has been ruled by pirates, and her godmother was killed by the pirates' captain, Arlong.
Sanji, the ship's cook. He fights only using kicks, since he does not want to mess up his hands.
Nico Robin, the ship's archeologist. She ate the Hana-Hana fruit, which gave her the ability to make hands grow on objects and use them as her own hands.
Tony Tony Chopper the ship's doctor. Chopper used to be a normal deer, but he ate the Hito Hito fruit, which made him human-like and gave him the ability to speak.
Franky, the shipwright. Franky is a cyborg. His fighting style is shooting with his cyborg arm.

Together with his crew, Luffy sets sail to the most dangerous sea, the Grand Line, to find One Piece.

By my count that leaves the following sections either for translation and reworking or writing:

Series title: DragonBall
Number of manga volumes: 42
Completed series: Yes
Genres: Action, Adventure, Comedy, Fantasy, Science fiction
Age rating: All ages

The story of Dragon Ball follows the life of Son Goku, a monkey-tailed boy loosely inspired by the traditional Chinese novel Journey to the West (???). The Dragon Ball franchise continues until Goku becomes an adult. The franchise then changes to Dragon Ball Z. During his life, he fights many battles and eventually becomes the strongest martial artist in the entire universe. He is not without help, however, as the manga has a large ensemble cast of martial artist heroes and villains which provide the conflicts which drive the story.

The eponymous Dragon Balls are one component of the universe, but are not the focus for most of the plot lines. The Dragon Balls themselves are seven magical orbs which are scattered across the world. When assembled, they can be used to summon Shenlong, the dragon who will grant one wish within its limit. After the wish is granted, the Dragon Balls are scattered again across the world and become inert for one year

^Copied from wikipedia. I can include a list of characters if needed from my own knowledge, but im guessing each character is going to already have one.

Now anybody can help translate even for mangas they dont know of

Series title: Rokudenashi Blues
Number of manga volumes: 42 (same as dbz ^^)
Completed series: yes
Genres: Adventure, Comedy, Action, Sports

Rokudenashi Blues (Good-For-Nothing Blues?) Is a boxing manga drawn and written by Masanori Morita, and serialized in Shonen Jump in Japan. While very popular in Japan, it has yet to be serialised in English, due probably to its length.

The story stars Taison Maeda, delinquent student of Teiken High, who wishes to become the World Boxing Champion. To do that, he must first beat the boxing champions of the other high schools in Japan. Short gag-stories with chibi versions of characters are published as 'Rokudenashi Buru-chu'.

Wiki:

Series Title: Kochira Katsushika-ku Kameari K?en-mae Hashutsujo (Abbreviated Kochikame)
Number of manga volumes: 158
Completed series: no (longest continuously running manga series)
Genre: Comedy, Police, Shonen

The typical Kochikame plot involves Ryo-san coming up with a money-making scheme by inventing a new gadget or capitalizing on a fad, achieving great success, calling on Nakagawa's help as things turn sour, and finally losing it all as the fad runs out of steam or out of control. While the plots are gag-driven, much of the humor comes from the combination of mundane characters with the bizarrely out of place characters as Nakagawa who has wealth and Maria who has appeal. What they have in common is that everyone's lack of actual police work, most of which is never explained or rationalized in the slightest

Series title: Cobra
Number of manga volumes: 20
Completed series: Yes
Genre: Science Fiction, Action

The series features the infamous space-pirate Cobra who was once forced to hide from enemies by surgically altering his face and erasing his own memory. At the start of the story he is living an ordinary life but after going to a trip-parlor (where ordinary people live out their fantasies thanks to hypnotic suggestion - a similar concept is Philip Dick's Total Recall) he starts to regain his true memories. With his android partner Lady Armaroid (a female armored being) literally 'bursting' out of the bulky domestic robot she impersonated in his years of 'vacation', and his old ship Tortuga, he now faces foes both old and new. The first, and most well-known of the manga stories sees him encountering the Royal sisters whose bodies hold the map to a great treasure

Series title: Sakigake!! Otokojuku
Number of manga volumes: 34
Completed Series: yes
Genre: Comedy, Action

The genius principal of the private school, Heihachi Edajima, was a war hero during World War II. He trained his students to play an active role in politics, economics and industries in Japan and all over the world, though the way of training is highly anachronistic.

The martial arts depicted in this series are also highly exaggerated. Whenever someone is about to play an otherworldly trick, the author draws a sidebar to explain it and cites an encyclopedia-style explanation from books published by "Minmei Publishing Co." which is a fictitious story-telling device. The stories usually contain a history for each 'trick'.

@notnarb I am only speaking for myself here but I would not be surprised if the same opinion was shared by the others.
I would rather not use wikipedia for this section, there is the moral side (depending on ho, the legal side (I am not sure what license wikipedia falls under but I would rather the project not be constrained) and the fact wikipedia is designed for long articles not short summaries like this.

By all means use it as a reference in conjunction with other articles ( http://www.animenfo.com/index.php , http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encycloped...ime.php?id=2635 and http://www.absoluteanime.com/anime.php? are the ones I tend to use), quite in fact this is probably one of the few occasions wikipedia is OK to reference but ctrl and c, ctrl and V is not really my idea of good work.

Wikipedia is under the GNU Free Documentation License, says so on the bottom of nearly every page. However, I don't have the time right now to see if you can just lift stuff from it and put it in a game...I think so citing would be in order.

However I don't think taking summaries from Wikipedia is an especially bad idea...however there are some occurrences where the summaries of wikipedia articles need to be added to and cleaned.

As I have said in an unrelated issue, I believe that this is our project, and therefore we should do whatever we can to distinguish it apart from anything existing out there. Plus it's just damn lazy to lift text from elsewhere.

As much as I love the series, the story has so much going on it and it is kinda hard to write about it without going on a rant on just one chapter.
This one is a bit more revised, started it out just like Fast suggested. Ended up with the same ending lol, and I wasnt even looking at what I wrote last time.

Code:
