Why can't I play these files on Foobar2000? I am really freaking pissed at Apple because a few albums that I downloaded from the iTunes store I can't listen to on my netbook with Foobar2000 without installing iTunes and that would kill my computer so badly. Any way these files are DRM protected even though Apple made it blatantly clear earlier this year that all iTunes music would not have DRM and I downloaded these albums back in March or so.

Since you legally own the files, why not torrent them?

    A) Torrents are garbage
    B) It's rare music, odds are no one has ever uploaded some of this music before.
    C) I hate torrents

Assuming the computer with iTunes has version 8.1 or lower (which it probably does not, but whatever), you can try using *snip* to remove the DRM.

If you have credit in your iTunes Store account, you should be able to upgrade to the "iTunes Plus" (higher quality, DRM-free AAC) version of the song for 30 cents or so.
