Is there a way to keep my game's save files protected the next time I install atmosphere?

I just installed the latest atmosphere on my switch and started playing FE 3 houses. I am new to the hacking scene and I was wondering if there's a way to have my save files of the game backed up in case something happens? Where are the save files kept? Also can anyone tell me if I'll lose progress in the game/or the game gets a "corrupted data" if I update atmosphere in the future???

There is homebrew to backup your save to sd card. It's called checkpoint.
    https://github.com/FlagBrew/Checkpoint/releases
You can then move those backups to wherever you want. And you can any backup you have on your sd card as long as you have opened the game once.

I see but do you know the exact location on the SD the game's data/save files are stored? Can't I just back those specific files instead of backing everything up is that possible?

Checkpoint is the safest option, since the saves are decrypted and can always be restored, even on a different Switch.

You can also use Checkpoint to backup all of your saves at once.

Save files are not stored on the sd card, so no, saves will not be lost if something goes wrong with it.
