So, my New 3DS suddenly started having issues with stability (Freezes on home menu, and isnt responsive anymore; sometimes failes to boot, boot.firm issues)
I posted a thread explaining it all , so I wont go into detail here.
Now, I ran the 3ds Hw-test.firm, and it came back like this. What does this mean? Is my 3ds screwed? It worked just fine

The ram in your system is failing. You’re going to need to either replace the motherboard or replace the system.

I am still curious about what happened to it tho... I mean it was working fine for like 3 years and last week it started like out of nowhere. Never had any problems like that with it before...

Why a new thread?
Anyway, the high number of errors can indicate the RAM chip is toast. Or maybe it can't be reached correctly due to broken solder joints.
That is just a layperson's guess.

That board would need troubleshooting by an expert.
This would be more than "just get another one" -- I'm actually interested in finding out what fails and why and if it can be theoretically repaired. The costs are prohibitive though (and I wouldn't know if somebody does such complicated things on 3DS; it is done on phones in data recovery).

Is it known what ram chip the 3ds uses? If it is, then certainly an Expert would be able to solder the new one on. Sadly I neither have knowledge or equipment for soldering such small components, but I will look into it. Still don't have an idea why it failed from one day to the next. Never had any troubles like this with my system before...

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

anyways, we need to re-normalize physical media

if i didn't want my games to be permanent, then i'd rent them

Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.

@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM

  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm

i like physical media because it actually feels like you own it. thats why i plan on burning music to cds

It's nice to not have to have a lot of physical things though, saves space

@rqkaiju2, Physical media is a great source for archiving your data, none of that cloud storage shiz.
