Uh... no?

Windows Defender has made a good job in the 6 years I've had my laptop.

But then I too use common sense and don't install anything stupid or download bullshit.

No, simple as. You can now easily just avoid virus by common sense. Using an antivirus will just make your computer slower and the risk is very of getting a viru nowadays compared to old times is very low unless you are very computer ill and you don't even know how to make folders or change basic settings of the PC lol

if anything it's overprotective, i'd rather overprotective than ineffective

last time i tried playing crysis 2 it kept deleting the exe thinking it was a trojan (it was the steam copy)

I read Bitdefender was really good and free, but then I tried the built-in Windows AV (Windows Defender) and been using that for years now.

I rarely use cracked apps and when I want to install a new one, I have to temporarily disable real-time protection which makes sense. For example, the cracked Iobit Uninstaller Pro v11 (it's cleaner than the official Pro version) bypasses it so no need to disable it.

Having to use a cracked version to avoid ads... 😆

Avast, AVG, McAfee and Norton are bad, bloatware and more false alarms pick up often. Also steal and sell people info to companies and other 3rd party companies.

Just use Avira is Germany made anti-virus is very good because don't pick up a lot of false alarm compare to Kaspersky made from Russia

Malwarebytes Anti-Malware

and

SUPERAntiSpyware Free Edition

are great then should be good enough for all protection together.

Someone defending Avira in 2023 now that's something I didn't expect. Back then [XP/7] I avoided it and would use Kaspersky instead.
I couldn't even bother with Kaspersky today. Bitdefender seem to be the new king and Kaspersky can sadly be affected by the Russian government.

I'm fine with Windows Defender nowadays and besides, using two AVs can be conflicting as one or the other has to be disabled.

Malwarebytes is good to use every few months.

Yeah it serves it's purpose.
Well, the other AVs disable Windows Defender if so.

Malwarebytes is fine to run time to time. I also recommend Hitman Pro runs then and then.
