Hello
Maybe a noob question, but I have to ask
Once CFW are released, and I install it on my Switch, is it possible for nintendo to patch it?
like, if I have a CFW and I update, is it possible for nintendo to brick my switch?
or ban me from online service?
And thus, even if I use only legaly aquired games?

Firmware is ALWAYS patchable.
Brick is also a possibility if the update interferes with the CFW.
Ban is also pretty obvious. You are breaking the TOS to use the services...
When you say "Ban is also pretty obvious", do you mean Ninty can detect CFW with me just being online?

The way CFW is being designed, one should never have to update one's sysNAND, which makes a brick very unlikely. It also makes removing access to CFW nearly impossible.

It's the emuNAND that will be updated, and it doesn't really matter what happens to the emuNAND.

kool, but if they ban the emunand from online service, do they also ban the whole switch (including SysNand)?

Yes, that would ban sysNAND too. A Rosalina-like interface for loading homebrew is being worked on for the Switch CFW, which should make it hard for Nintendo to detect CFW. In other words, there's a decent chance that, as long as you don't do anything stupid like play online with a game that's unreleased or cheat online, you won't be banned.

I guess playing online with downloaded rom is includede in stupid things?
iirc, you could get banned from 3ds online service for that

That all depends on how the game is played, and it's too early to speculate on how backup-loading might work on the Switch. Depending on how it works, bans could be possible.

alright, thanks a lot

I might sound a bit paranoiac, but I'll still ask it
could it be possible that, once cfw are released, Nintendo will wait a couple of month, so that many users get cfw
and then, release a CFW-bricker/banner patch?
Like, trapping as much switch as possible, to make us buy another one

Everything you just said there is wrong.

Example: look @ FW 5.0.0. for the Switch. They designed it now in a way that there is no easy entry path for hacks. Sure a hardware mod might still be possible.

And yes.. that could be. However, trap is maybe not the right word ;)

i wasnt talking about entry path to install CFW
I meant if I already had a CFW before updating the console, would they be able to make the cfw crash

The worst they might do are banwaves. There's no way they would intentionally brick so many users.

That is in my eyes exactly the same thing.

If you have a CFW installed, you can update your console and that update can overwrite the CFW part.
Wii -> iOS that became stubs...

If you´re so worried about getting caught playing illegaly obtained software for you Switch, i´d recommend you to just buy the games you are intrested in instead.

That's probably the safest solution to be fair.
