People should read the article properly before speculating on price - this is being made by Blaze, who previously made those 20-in-1 Genesis III machines, it's not manufactured by SNK, just licensed by them.

I think it's very cool, and if it's sub $100 and plays NGP games too I might get one, but I have all the built in games emulated perfectly already on my original XBOX, so it needs to be reasonable. These are old games, and that has to be considered by Blaze when pricing the thing.

A spokesperson for Blaze has told Eurogamer that the £500 price tag suggested in MCV's story is incorrect.

"It's not £500," they confirmed. Apparently MCV's figure was based on a month's old forum post from a community member declaring what he'd be willing to pay for the device.

The article I posted was a direct response from MVC to the one you did. I don't know which source is correct, and I hope it's not MVC, but this does not prove it either way.

Okay... but $660 is pretty ridiculous for a gaming console... especially a handheld. I really doubt it'll cost that much.

Also, notice that the article I posted says "UPDATE: A spokesperson for Blaze has told Eurogamer that the £500 price tag suggested in MCV's story is incorrect." Your article probably responded to the one I posted before the update.

Agreed... It'd pretty much be the only thing keeping me from buying one. It's not like I don't have a couple of handhelds that already do a fine job of emulating the NeoGeo... Sub $100 and I'd be all over it. Over $100 but sub $200, I might still consider it. But at what the current articles are suggesting I can not justify not continuing to play them on my DS or PSP for my on the go needs.

As has been pointed out, they're trying to sell the thing for damn near what the original console cost. Of course if you count the games (which used to sell at ~$200 a pop), I suppose it's a real bargain... Only it's not, because I bought the MVS collection for ~$20 for my Wii.

Please, Blaze, don't be stupid. Please?!?

Woah... were the games seriously $200 each? That's crazy.
That's because they were basically identical to the Arcade games, to the point where with a certain adapter you could play the Arcade cartridges on the home console. The prices went down when the Neo Geo CD was released and the games were re-released on CD's which were obviously much cheaper.

it would be funny if this was actually manufactured by chinachip and released by blaze, making it a rebranded dingoo/gemei running the same emu as the rest.

this system would have to be really nice if they expect to get that price. a perfect lcd with no fading, perfect emulation, perfect buttons, 2-player local wifi options, emu/homebrew support out of the box, documented hardware and an sdk, etc. guess we will wait and see what the reviews have to say about it.

If it's more than $100 it'll bomb. Fact.

Especially since I'm pretty sure that it's really similiar to the Dingoo, and it shouldn't cost more than 60$.

I hope it comes with a 320×224 display for true 1:1 graphics.
I'd hate to have some weird 480x272 or similar only to have an half assed stretched and blurry picture.
I like the design a lot, but ultimately , it'll come down to the display quality.

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

anyways, we need to re-normalize physical media

Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.

@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM

  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm
