Freelance technology writer Hiroshige Goto recently reported on sony next generation gaming plan and how they may not involve the Cell processor. He's back with another installment of its weekly overseas new column at Impress Watch, and this time the focus is Nintendo.

According to Goto, Intel has been attempting to get Nintendo to make use of its upcoming Larrabee processor. Due to the timing, explains Goto, the target for Larrabee would likely be a true next generation machine rather than Wii HD, which Goto says is widely rumored to be planned for 2010 release and would thus need to have been in its final development phases when Intel approached Nintendo.

Goto does not provide specifics on what kind of talks are taking place between Nintendo and Intel at this point, stating that he himself does not know. Much of the article consists of conjecture over why incorporating Larrabee into a Wii successor might be good for both Nintendo and Intel, despite Larrabee's aggressive push for power and Nintendo's more conservative approach to processing technology may seem at odds with one-another.

going for a new improvement is risky but seeing tht it is intel, it is not only a good idea but more good looking graphics (on full speed) are expected too...
u can tell tht nintendo on the next wii and ds upgrade will really jump high relatively more than what the ps3-4 or xbox360-720 would

Nintendo isn't going upgrade their graphics but make them smoother. If anyone notice from SSBM that the processor on the Gamecube was faster then the one for SSBB. SSBB graphics were smoother, the same thing for Mario Galaxy. I just don't know how graphics can become any smoother than the Wii?

Hmph. I don't care what Nintendo puts in their next gen system. Not going to purchase it. Nintendo consoles always dissapoint me with their lack-luster third party game selection.

I'll probably go Microsoft or Sony. next gen.

Maybe next-nes, will have the ingrediants to appeal to the more serious gamer, so I won't say what revolutionize says, ever.

Did anyone else here follow the links in this thread? they are interesting.

Uhh if Nintendo expects to compete in the next console generation and still try to push some of their own technical advancements like the Wii remote, then they sure as hell better up the ante and put out a console that is at least 3 or 4 times more powerful then the Wii and has to be at least equal in performance to what the 360 and PS3 are capable of because they are at their peaks for visual performance. I can't see Nintendo investing time into Larrabee for their next console, especially with Wii sales having dropped off and the company cutting back the production drastically. No one wants another Wii system, people who actually care about playing real games want Nintendo's legendary games on a console that will play them with amazing graphics. As a long time gamer, I couldn't give two shits about the Wii controller anymore, it was and will always remain a fad and the whole idea behind motion based controls is a gimmick. With how shit 3rd party titles are on the Wii because developers don't give a crap about making good real games for it, there is no sense in buying one, there is nothing coming that is worth getting and all of those independent titles that were announced back when the Wii was at E3 a few years ago, those games are non existent.

Microsoft's attempts with motion control will be a complete failure and even more of an abysmal joke then the Wii remote which at least is practical and works.

Interesting

Isn't larrabee that GPU+CPU combination thing?

QUOTELarrabee can be considered a hybrid between a multi-core CPU and a GPU, and has similarities to both. Its coherent cache hierarchy and x86 architecture compatibility are CPU-like, while its wide SIMD vector units and texture sampling hardware are GPU-like.

Yeah, if that was true the Wii wouldn't be outselling its competitors at or almost at a 2:1 ratio. The next Wii definitely needs better graphics, but nothing on-par with the next gen of 360/PS3.

I hope you realize console sales go in proportion mostly to software sales. There just hasn't been much in the way of software pushing the Wii. Wait for when SMG 2 drops and when LoZ Wii 2 drops and you'll see sales skyrocket.

I'm pretty sure the 50 million people bought the Wii beg to differ. Sure, a lot of these are "casual" gamers but that's what the next console war will be: fighting over casual gamers. Also, your argument is basically graphics > gameplay, a terribly flawed argument. People want to play Nintendo's legendary games if they're good, not if they're pretty.

First off, if motion controls were a "fad", then how come every company is pursuing it? Sony's having one in the works. Microsoft has Project Natal on the way. It's not a gimmick or a fad, it's a new way to game. I'm sorry if not every system is going to have the same old controller for the next 20 years. Second off, just because some jackoffs want to profit by making shitty third party games doesn't mean all third parties are bad on the Wii (although by your Wii hate and general trolling, you'd probably think so). Monster Hunter Tri, Sengoku Musou 3, Sin and Punishment 2, MadWorld, The Conduit, Call of Duty 4 and 5, need I go on?

Project Natal boasts to have better motion sensing not to mention customization. Not only will it track your movements, but you can add your own items to a game. Playing Guitar Hero but want your special guitar in there? Look no further. Playing Tony Hawk and want your skateboard? Pow! The rest of this is just trolling.

Seriously, you're just a terrible troll and a dumb fanboy. It's obvious.

???

If its just force feedback, you don't need VR, VR is kinda like merging your brain and sensory inputs into a computer, but there is this onohole that you can get with a usb extention, that when combined with games that support the onohole, you get a good force feedback effect with it that makes it feel like the girl is on your.... thingie.

In my opinion VR will prolly be released eventually, but sexbots have a greater chance of being created and mass produced earlier than VR, since you don't have to map a human brain, or develop a system that can automatically compensate for different brains.... in short, I'd say sexbots before VR, AR before that and onohole+usb vibrator now.
