Hi guys,

Just booted up my wii again after a few years of it saving dust.
I noticed it's still on 4.2 and gives notices about updating to 4.3, which I'd like to do as I modded my wii back in the old days with lots of crap I think.

I've read updating removes all cIOS which I think is great as I can then easily 'start over' using letterbomb.

The only question I've got is wether my Bootmii will still be in boot2 or be able to install it again to boot2 after the update (as I've read and seen there's wii's which cannot install to boot2).

Any comment on this would be greatly appreciated! :)

You don't need to update. Nintendo did not add any new features with 4.2 or 4.3. All those versions did was remove some exploits. If you have PriiLoader installed you can set it up so it stops nagging you about the update. If you are now sure if you have PriiLoader installed, hold down the reset button while turning on your Wii and see if it loads up.

Thanks for the tip about the reset-button, will try that! :)

I'll probably stick to using the hackmii-installer again and running the d2x cios installer to update stuff

Before you start willy nilly changing things, post a syscheck using this guide below:

https://gbatemp.net/threads/posting-a-system-check.300279/

Even though it's been years since you last used your Wii their may not be any need to update anything. If it ain't broke, don't mess with it. Lol.

Haha will be posting it within the hour, I'm really curious as to which tools I used back in the days the HBC was released (like darkcorp stuff)

Your HBC isn't the newest version and you should update IOS249/250 to at least d2x v8.

HBC is supposed to update itself if you have an internet connection set up on your console.

Thought so, I haven't used it in a while which is why I thought about updating the wii to 4.3 and then re-modding it using letterbomb (and thus posting the question here ^^).

As for the auto-update not working; I've read this in other posts as well. I do have an active internet connection on the wii so it should update, maybe a bug in HBC?.

So to bring the dusty wii up to date I'd have to do the following (?):
- Use bannerbomb to run the hackmii installer again (which updates both bootmii and HBC if I read that correctly) - https://sites.google.com/site/completesg/hacking-guide/the-basics
- Use d2x installer to install v10 in both 249 and 250 - https://sites.google.com/site/completesg/backup-launchers/installation

Thanks for the advice on this guys!

You don't need to do bannerbomb again since you already have the homebrew channel installed. Just download and run the HackMii installer from the homebrew channel. (http://bootmii.org/download/).

As far as installing d2x, latest doesn't always mean better. It's been generally recommended to install d2x v8 on a Wii and d2x v10 on a Wii U's vWii. The usual spots to install are slots 249, 250 and 251 using base 56, 57, 58 respectively.

If you are confused about anything or need further clarification just let me know.

Thanks for letting me know! I've already installed those (53+52) as d2x v8 was not available in the d2x-installer. Here's my new syscheck, is this okay? :)

d2x-installer did show about 10 red blocks (cios installs), is this okay too?

I'm not sure about the red blocks. I think that is just letting you know that you have something installed in those slots. I would still highly recommend that you install d2x v8 final. You can find it here (https://code.google.com/archive/p/d2x-cios/downloads). Also, if you want to have everything "up to date", this is what I would recommend.

Nintendont (lets you play Gamecube games from a USB drive) - https://gbatemp.net/threads/nintendont.349258/

neek2o (used to launch those troublesome WiiWare and Virtual Console games that don't work under normal d2x nand emulation) - https://gbatemp.net/threads/neek2o.313314/

And a guide I wrote on how to install neek2o - https://gbatemp.net/threads/usb-loader-gx.149922/page-1075#post-5929568

That's pretty much it.

Thanks! As for nintendont and neek2o, those are already installed (was the first thing I came across when looking for wii homebrew after dusting off the wii^^)

I will try to install v8 and let you know!

Thanks for all the help! :)
