Hacking I'm running Boostrap and 11.2, can I just update to 11.10 using the main system settings update?

I re-installed CFW from scratch back using 3ds.hacks.guide when 11.2 was the latest FW out, I need to update so I can update my CIAs with the latest game title updates. I haven't needed to update my CFW before, is it really as simple as updating from the built in update menu?

Yes, updating the system while on a CFW with a kernel write protection patch is as simple as doing it the official way

You'll also need to update your cfw (which you didn't specify, but on a B9S system is usually done by replacing the boot.firm file) if you were using an older version of Luma, but that's a separate step which can be done before or after at your leisure

Thanks, I just created a separate post about this but maybe you can help. I launched Luma updater, it updated to Luma 2.4 updater. Then when I relaunched it, it updated Luma from Luma 9.2 to Luma 10. It brought me to the Luma settings, I enabled Game Patching and Autoboot Emunand. When the system rebooted, I was brought to a blank system with none of my installed CIAs. Just recently having hacked my Switch, I thought I was using emuNand on the 3DS, but I guess I wasn't which would explain how I have a blank system title menu now. How can I go back into Luma settings to change this?

Is there any reason to use emuNAND vs System NAND? I do not go online with this system to play multiplayer so does it matter if I run CFW off the systemNAND?

The LumaUpdater icon is now missing from my system menu as well, so I'm not sure how I can change Luma settings to remove the autoboot emunand.

EDIT: Was able to boot into Luma settings, disable the autoboot EmuNAND and got my CIAs back. Now I can just update from the system menu? Not sure how to tell if I have the Kernel Protection patch on, again just followed the guide on 3ds.hacks.guide

to Luma 10
Good - you already have the newest one :) (not the absolute latest but certainly fine for running 11.8+ operating systems)

Yeah, you probably were using sysnand (as recommended for years - since the launch of said kernel write protection patches, which came out in the A9LH days), still had an emunand wasting space on SD (else you wouldn't even have that option on the newer versions of Luma), and accidentally chose it :)

You can open Luma's settings by holding select as it loads (which for a typical setup means "start holding it before turning on the power")

Is there any reason to use emuNAND vs System NAND?
Not really, it brings various disadvantages (mostly unchanged since it was invented in 2014 or so) and no advantages unless you're aiming for certain atypical and questionable setups (dual/triple/etc booting different versions or regions, needing to use a gateway flashcard which requires their own grossly outdated CFW, ...)

The updater is just a homebrew (of questionable value since it just downloads a file off github and places it on the root of the SD), you don't need it for Luma's operation or at all ;)

Thanks, was able to update painlessly. Although some of my backups won't update. I tried Mario Kart 7 and got a generic error, then tried Pokemon Ultra Moon and it's updating now. Weird.

Must be something about this MK7 back up I have, Mario and Luigi Dream Team updated fine as well.

I have explained the issue better in the past (try searching for "type 1 and type 2 updates", using an external search engine because gbatemp's ignores all words under 3 characters), but in short it's caused by having installed a non-original update - you'll have to uninstall it and its ticket (for example with a recent version of FBI 2) before the download will work
