Heya,

I am new here and want to use the PastaCFW.
Right now, I'm on Firmware 7.1 and want to update to 9.2
Is there a way to do that without any Flashcard or Retail Game?

That's true, I own Cubic Ninja but not a Retail Game with Update 9.2 on it.
I want to update Firmware 7.1 to 9.2 without Retail Game (with 9.2) or Flashcard)

Ah.
Well you can use FBI through NINJHAX to install the 9.2 update CIAs but be very very careful. I would not suggest trying that without doing a lot of research first to find out how to do it safely. If you do anything wrong you end up with a pretty paperweight.

Yea...OR...Find someone with US SSB v1 ROM/cart and update that way. (safest, easiest)

Any method that involves manually installing update CIAs poses some risk. Downloading all the firmware update files for 9.2 for your region through 3DNUS and installing them with FBI should be all that is needed. I don't think it's very risky, I just don't want anyone to end up with a brick because of a suggestion I gave them. So that's why I advise you to do your own research. And make a NAND backup beforehand, so that you can get a NAND mod installed and unbrick it if it goes wrong.

The only safe way is to use a cart.

- the easiest method is boot into ninjax and install cia using fbi.
- the safest is downgrade, install cia to emunand, extract emunand and restore it back to nand.

yall im torn... ive been hacking away at tales of phantasia GBA (the USA version) and have so many documents of reverse engineering i've done
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I just found out that the EU version is better in literally every way, better sound quality, better lighting, and there's even a patch someone made to make the text look nicer
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
Do I restart now using what i've learned on the EU version since it's a better overall experience? or do I continue with the US version since that is what ive been using, and if someone decides to play my hack, it would most likely be that version?
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
@TwoSpikedHands, I'll preface this with the fact that I know nothing about the game, but, I think it depends on what your goals are. Are you trying to make a definitive version of the game? You may want to refocus your efforts on the EU version then. Or, are you trying to make a better US version? In which case, the only way to make a better US version is to keep on plugging away at that one ;)
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
I'm not familiar with the technicalities of the differences between the two versions, but I'm wondering if at least some of those differences are things that you could port over to the US version in your patch without having to include copyrighted assets from the EU version
