Yesterday I got myself a Wii U again because of the scene. I'm unable to get home before the "what ever Nintendo are doing" is done.

I was hoping to buy a DS game for the estore. I understand that might not be possible now and I'm ok with that.

What are my options when it comes to been able to block the update? It's it possible for me to remain where I am? Can I still get home brew working if I set up my own server? Ect.

Yes but you can spoof and then use NNU patcher for temp access to eshop
