Hello everyone.
This is my first post on this forum so be nice to me ;).
A few days ago I came over a GBSP NES edition with 3 games (Zelda minish cap, advance wars 2, rayman) and a flash cart for $3.
So I'm all new to this and need some help.

First of all I want to identify my flash cart. Here you go:

Why I want to identify it is because I would like to know if its any good. And what it supports. For example RTC.

Second I need to find something that I can use to reflash it with new games. I'm missing cable or what you use to program it. Please direct me to a DIY cable or where you can buy it. Maybe a new cart pack with cable.

Why I want this to work is simple, just for the fun of it. And that i ordered a ez flash IV from RHS but not sure if I'm getting because seems like people bought thousands of them when they came in stock.

I hope you can help me in this matter.

Sincerely

Very odd
"Fire2USB50a.exe" is mentioned on the archive version of the official site (the one on the label - http://web.archive.org/web/20090328052014/http://kst1388.com/download.asp ), this is most likely a firecard/firelinker. Not seen one like that before but firecards are second only to R4 in the generic name stakes.
http://wiki.pocketheaven.com/index.php?title=FireLinker has more.
Not much chance you will find a cable for it* though and no DS based software methods that I know of (granted that list sits at anything that got called an expansion pack for the DS and http://code.google.com/p/fas1/ ).

*I say this but firecards are occasionally found in places (I have no places currently supplying them and all my old links seem to have dried up, a search only drags up a few alibaba pages and info links) and as they are not that desirable they tend to hang around. They are not great but they are no supercard and will play things if you can get the software working.

You got... all of that for 3 dollars?

Yeah! but it was a estimate. My girlfriend works in a second hand shop and I made a deal with her boss when i saw it was a nes edition and a flashcart. The deal was that I fix the boss's computer and we bought two pants, a dress, Logitech harmony 1000, and the gameboy for $17. Quite a good deal.

yall im torn... ive been hacking away at tales of phantasia GBA (the USA version) and have so many documents of reverse engineering i've done
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I just found out that the EU version is better in literally every way, better sound quality, better lighting, and there's even a patch someone made to make the text look nicer
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
Do I restart now using what i've learned on the EU version since it's a better overall experience? or do I continue with the US version since that is what ive been using, and if someone decides to play my hack, it would most likely be that version?
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
@TwoSpikedHands, I'll preface this with the fact that I know nothing about the game, but, I think it depends on what your goals are. Are you trying to make a definitive version of the game? You may want to refocus your efforts on the EU version then. Or, are you trying to make a better US version? In which case, the only way to make a better US version is to keep on plugging away at that one ;)
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
I'm not familiar with the technicalities of the differences between the two versions, but I'm wondering if at least some of those differences are things that you could port over to the US version in your patch without having to include copyrighted assets from the EU version
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
@Sicklyboy I am wanting to fully change the game and bend it to my will lol. I would like to eventually have the ability to add more characters, enemies, even have a completely different story if i wanted. I already have the ability to change the tilemaps in the US version, so I can basically make my own map and warp to it in game - so I'm pretty far into it!
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I really would like to make a hack that I would enjoy playing, and maybe other people would too. swapping to the EU version would also mean my US friends could not legally play it
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I am definitely considering porting over some of the EU features without using the actual ROM itself, tbh that would probably be the best way to go about it... but i'm sad that the voice acting is so.... not good on the US version. May not be a way around that though

    I appreciate the insight!
