ICQ was the first internet chat client to be adopted by the mainstream. It's been widely overtaken by AOL Instant Messenger and MSN Messenger these days, but it's still quite popular outside of the United States.

Your "UIN" (Universal Identification Number) is your login to the ICQ network. It's pretty sexy to have a six digit UIN - it means you were one of the early adopters. You can get five digit UIN's, but only via purchase, as ICQ staff were the only ones they were given to.
