3rd Party dock problems:

There have been reports going around that ever since the 5.0 OS update, third party Switch docks have been bricking systems, specifically the Nyko brand portable docks. Well, I can confirm this is true. This happened to me today. I have the above mentioned Nyko dock and while luckily, it didn't brick the system, it did make the console stop recognizing being docked in any dock, even my official one. Called Ninty, walked through the steps for diagnosis and because my launch unit was out of warranty, they had me ship it to them today for a fix for $115. You might wanna get a PSA warning out there.

I have a legit reason on why I don't update my FW.
I'm using a 3rd-party dock and I don't want to risk a brick.

I’m not sure it’s worth not being able to play new games just to avoid using the official dock.

I don't need it for piracy. I need it for cheats! Don't get me wrong. I am an 30yo father of two kids. I love playing games but for the most games I don't have the "time" to farm, level etc.
So I would love to have infinite items in Zelda etc. so I can enjoy/rush the story of certain games. I don't need it for online game hacks - hate stuff like that. Only for my singleplayer / indie games.
Can only play 1-2h maximum a day and with that limited time I think zelda is definitly pain in the ass!

i got a 16 y.o daughter and 6 yr old son. I don't have time to farm etc grind on games too. I tried to cheat before (of course offline) and i enjoyed it for like an hour then i realized there was no sense of accomplishment since i did not put hard work into it. Of course i reapect your decision if you enjoy doing it that way. As for me, I just play as much as I can during my free time which is most likely 2 days a fortnight tops then adulting gets in the way. I play during those 2 days after I've done my share of house work. Family comes first. By the way, I farmed arrows on Zelda with amiibos. On days that i don't have time to play, i just open it up to scan amiibos and then back to sleep mode.

I, personally, wouldn't update. Many people have said that getting homebrew/CFW on 5.0.0 will be extremely tough and that Nintendo fixed many of the bugs that could've been exploited. It's also clear the the ReSwitched Team is very close to homebrew/CFW for 4.1. That's my opinion though, and I'm an idiot. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Ask yourself this; will updating really be worth the games? As an avid Nintendo fan for two decades now, I have to say that the Switch is horribly mediocre and lackluster. I haven't bought one yet because Nintendo games have been following a disappointing trend ever since the Wii. Maybe it's just me, but more modern Nintendo titles seem to focus on the appearance and not the actual game play. Maybe I'm entirely too jaded for today's Nintendo, but it's honestly not worth it to me until the game library actually receives something worth updating over. If I were a Switch owner, I would have never even opened the packaging, because homebrew is the only thing it has going for it.

I personally will update once a game comes out that I want. Mario came out and I updated to 3.0.1 as soon as I got the cart from gamestop. It will probably happen the same way once Smash Bros comes out. I barely play on my switch atm, I probably should try playing it more, but If it can sit and wait until CFW for 4.1.0 comes out then great, if not, then I'll update to the fw that Smash Bros needs.

If you feel that you will want to play upcoming games but dont want to update now, then update when those games come out. If not being able to play online is slowly killing you, then update.

i've a 3ds but i also own 20s of original cartridges, if TC has a proper job and a ordinary social life and not addicted to videogame, why don't buy original ones and support those ''poor'' developers?

I updated yesterday because i wanted to download some games from the eShop. Not gonna wait months possibly a year for some CFW that might not even happen. Also i will be getting TE's hack which is supposed to work on any FW. That will be a true solution not some crappy soft mod.

Instead of updating my Switch, I just bought a 2 TB drive for my Wii U.
Now I'm enjoying games that I haven't played yet like Injustice (great one!!!), Need for Speed: Most Wanted, Sky Force and many more and I'm not missing anything on my Switch for now.
Yeah I can only play Zelda and Mario Kart (pretty much) but most of the time I'm at work or home.
I can't play at work and I've got my Wii U at home so I'm pretty fine with it. I love it.
The Switch might replace the Wii U's "niceness" when RetroArch gets better and a CFW comes out though.

Next brick on gba incoming, be careful because you never know and someone else can update it, better to get the new docks for the 5.0 fw
