if u can save up, buy a second. that's what I did. maybe a stupid choice in the future but best option if you can afford another 300 and are into online interactions in games.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

A 3rd party dock:
1. Is small.
2. Is cheap.

So, the first reason, it is small:
Imagine you want to carry the the dock in your pocket when visiting a friend or something, well, unless you have huge pockets it is difficult to do that with the original dock. You could still use the electronics of the original dock, and put that into a smaller case, but take into account that that would cost you some $80+ (for an original dock) plus the cost of the smaller replacement dock.

For the second reason, it is cheap:
Suppose you have multiple TVs in your home, and you move your Switch to some other TV often, perhaps from between your bedroom and your living room, or whatever. You either have to disconnect and reconnect the dock all the time like an idiot, or you can buy a second dock. And a Nintendo dock is $80+, while a 3rd party dock may cost $20-.
3rd party docks along with the 5.0 update has actually been known to start causing bricks. i would Strongly advise against the risk.

There's hope for a Xenosaga port.

I know, but I was answering the question "What are the reasons to use a 3rd party dock instead of the official one that comes with the Switch?"

The way I see it you can play the vast majority of games at the moment on firmware 4.1.0, which is confirmed exploitable. So why rush and update right now? finish what games you currently own then see how you feel. Even then you can likely walk in to a shop and buy any game you want at the moment which will work on 4.1.0.

For me personally I could easily go the rest of this year and probably longer without updating. The main game I want on the Switch is a new Pokemon game which I very much doubt is going to arrive this year. I want an exploitable Switch so I can hopefully collect and help preserve event Pokemon in the future.

I purchased the following games from the eShop to enjoy on the Switch in the mean time:
  • Fast RMX
  • Sonic Mania
  • Sky Force Reloaded
  • Pac-Man Championship Edition 2 Plus
  • Sine Mora Ex
Really it comes down to why you own a Switch, I mainly own one for Pokemon and any new Mario Kart games. Anything else like Bayonetta 3 is just a bonus, I can happily wait to play if it comes to it. I don't have loads of time to game anyway.

If your a hardcore Nintendo gamer and on the Switch all the time, then it might not be worth waiting for you however.

Pretty much this.
Not that hard to understand.

From what I hear it's just 3rd party power supplies that blow the fuses on the charging port, which causes the Switch to not charge, as the fuse was blown. As it can't charge, it's effectively bricked.

Nobody's releasing shit, so might as well update. As usual, the hacking teams are nothing but assholes showing off.

What the hell are you talking about? A ton has been released. ACE on TrustZone isn't useful to the end user right now. What SciresM released into the toilet this morning has done more for the community than you ever could. Please piss up a rope, ingrate.

They don't just stop charging. Some of them are also going into a boot loop, meaning even if you can get the battery charged externally your data is pretty much gone as you can't get into the system to transfer it to a new system.
