This is another source port of another MAME based emulator, this time targeting the V.Smile series of consoles (excluding the V.Smile Baby). Games can run with or without a BIOS, and dedicated BIOS / Region toggles allow you to switch easily. Currently, all normal V.Smile and V.Smile Motion (using the controller option only) games are supported, but ideally I'd like to implement support for the various peripherals that currently not even MAME support. More info can be found on the Github, please let me know what you think and if you have any suggested features! https://github.com/1timewire1/D.Smile_nx/

To install, just make a dsmile folder in your switch folder on the SD card

KNOWN ISSUES / TODO
  • Performance isn't great on stock clocks. Either use a slight overclock, or enable the frame skip option in Graphics
  • Sound will occasionally die briefly before returning. Currently there's no workaround, it shouldn't be a persisting issue, but worst case restart the emulator.
  • Currently only .bin is supported, I'm gonna look into supporting .zip as well for games
  • Cover Art view is supported, but not the default, due to images having to be manually added (SteamGridDB does not catalog V.Smile games, so I couldn't find a way to remotely get covers)
  • V.Smile digitizer, Motion, Smart Book, Smart Keyboard, Art Studio Controller, Microphone, and PC Pal compatibility all needs to be explored.
  • There are a few unknown region flags that I left enabled (they function but I'm not sure what their purpose is). If I come across what they're meant for when trying to implement other features, those will be updated.

Thank you for the port!.. :)

I can't manually add cover arts, unfortunately. Here's my list of the installed games in a .bin format, they works all good:

Trying to add the cover for the game, named The Lion King - Simba's Big Adventure (USA).png, in a .png format located near the ROM. Like this:
The Lion King - Simba's Big Adventure (USA).png
But the app can't show any pictures. :( Please help..

That's weird, I just tested your attached image and was able to attach it to a game fine (please ignore my library being the same game 6 times at the moment :rofl2:). Are you sure you put the .png in the same folder as the games with the same exact filename? Did you change your default game folder (if so try putting the image in sdmc:/switch/dsmile/games and let me know if that fixes it)?

Yep, I am sure, sir..

No, I didn't change it, at all.

Nooo..

Maybe I need to arrange games in such a 'tile-view' instead of plane text list, as on my screenshot? And how to do that?..
Oooh yeah, there's the option to switch in the Launcher settings. Let me know if the covers show up for you after switching that

D.Smile NX 1.1.0 - a major release

D.Smile NX 1.1.0 is out! This is a big one: it closes the biggest remaining gap in the V.Smile library (the V.Smile Motion), adds two more accessories, and adds real power-off behavior so games that keep your progress in the console's memory (the way almost every V.Smile game saves progress) now work properly.

Download: v1.1.0 HERE

What's new
  • V.Smile Motion, Smart Keyboard, and Jammin' Gym Class dance mat support, configurable in Settings > Controller
    • V.Smile Motion uses the Switch controller's motion sensors (Handheld, Pro Controller, or a Joy-Con pair). Tilt, swing, and shake gestures are all supported
    • Two-player Motion is supported, but input is a little less precise when both players use Motion controllers: each controller's report rate had to be halved to stop the extra traffic from dropping inputs
    • Smart Keyboard uses a USB keyboard plugged into the Switch (US, UK, French, German, and Spanish layouts)
  • Real standby (power off). Quitting from the pause menu now turns the console off like its OFF button (the game's "goodbye" audio plays) and keeps that state, so the next launch of that game picks up where you left off
    • Some games keep your progress in the console's memory during standby rather than on the cartridge (e.g. Smart Keyboard's "Continue Game"), so that now works across sessions
    • Quitting any other way (L+R+Plus or HOME) skips this, the same as pulling the cartridge without pressing OFF
    • Optional Console ON / OFF / RESTART button binds, and the pause menu's Reset Game now acts as the console's RESTART button
  • Joystick tilt levels: the V.Smile joystick's different tilt levels are now translated from the left analog stick (the D-Pad is still full tilt)
  • Minor additional system settings: boot into the BIOS with no cartridge, the BIOS test screen, PAL / NTSC video mode, a color-button controller LED overlay, and the skip-VTech-logo jumper
  • Save states now remember the console setup they were made on (console type, region, logo jumper), so loading one after changing those settings won't restart the game
  • Fixed the emulated V.Smile Motion console reporting itself to games as a Cyber Pocket
  • The US V.Smile Motion BIOS is now correctly identified as v1.03 (it really boots with the standard V.Smile intro), with the matching Region labels and BIOS test screen

Credits
A lot of this release was built on research from the V.Smile preservation community. Huge thanks to:
  • The V.Smile development wiki (PulkoMandy and contributors) for the I/O pin, console-type, and controller protocol documentation
  • The VSmileDev and LFHacks Discord communities (V.simer, KanedaFr, V.iscoStarsmile, bmx, toadster172, and others) for the Smart Keyboard handshake, the BIOS test screen, and the standby/power button findings
  • KanedaFr for the annotated v1.03 BIOS disassembly
  • The Cutting Room Floor's V.Smile pages
  • derik-dot-digital/D.Smile, the original Android emulator and core this port is built on, and veesem and MAME as core references

As always, bug reports and feedback are welcome here or on GitHub!
