Gaming I heard a rumor about the switch, is this true?

Someone said that you will be able to transfer over 3ds and wii u games to your switch via redownloading them off of the eshop on the Switch.
Can anyone confirm this? It would be really cool to play some of my 3ds games on the switch.

Of course not. The Switch won't have any way to play 3DS or Wii U games natively because those two things have completely different hardware.

Well I haven't seen the hardware because I didn't care too much about that. Surely it can at least play 3ds games at least? Although idk how well that would go seeing as how the switch uses only one screen at a time.

The only way that would be possible is through emulation. Yes, Nintendo could probably make a 3DS emulator for the Switch, but I'm pretty certain they have not and never will do that.

There's a limit to how ignorant you can be about the way things work. The Switch will play Switch games, and nothing else (unless you count VC games, but that's just whatever they choose to release).

Well that's why I asked for confirmation. I doubted it but it sounded pretty cool so I wanted confirmation. I understand that it can't play hard copies of 3ds and wii u games but I thought it would be able to emulate virtual titles.

Why do you think they didn't come up and said "3DS is DEAD, all of our work force is going to the Switch now"? They still want people to believe that 3ds is alive and kicking.

one possibility would be "cross play" like valve did with portal (buy on Playstation, get it on pc for free)
which wiould be something like: if you buy wii breath of the wild in the Wii u, you also get the switch port (or vice versa)

but do you really think nintendo would pull somehting like this?
selling the same games for 20 years is their business model.. cross buy would make them poor

the only thing that MIGHT transfer (and even then you might have to pay a fee for each game) are the VC games when they are available

I don't...the Switch has one screen...and it's wide screen. Even if you could, the games would look like complete shit or be missing their bottom screen.

They already have DS emulation on the Wii U. It may not look nice undocked but it's possible.

That said, knowing Nintendo it would probably be years before we see it, if at all.

The Wii U has two screen, two independent screens. The Switch has one screen and a docking station.
And I don't think you are quite piecing things together. Without a bottom screen, they are either going to have to cram the game onto one screen. Which will look ok on the TV, but look like shit on the Switch. Or they will have to cut off one of the screens to make it work on the Switch.
