Japan has stuff at a higher price.
You can't just translate the japanese price and be like ZOMFG THE AMERICAN PRICE IS SO MUCH.

Yeah but I'm in europe, and ninty usually replaces the dollar sign with a euro sign when it comes to games (which would make it 1.2 times as expensive in europe, which is 60$ on a 300$ scale, which is a lot) or worse, they make it more expensive (ds games in the US are 35-40 dollars, in the EU they're 40-45 and we get less good games and have to wait longer than you do.) So in the end, the americans are the lucky bastards again and the rest of the world gets screwed three times over.

There is no denying that games on the 3DS look as good as or better than the Wii. Why wouldn't they make one for the 3DS? The way this is going, EVERYONE will have one of these.. People will collect these just like the electric toaster phase for Pete's sake!!

Also, the price is right where it should be. Unless exchange rates vs. the Dollar rise, I don't foresee any price drop.

Nintendo make games based on potential profit, and if they think there is enough market for a game, they'll make it.
Which means that it is likely that eventually we'll see a SSB for 3DS.

We'll eventually see a price drop. Obviously around the time that they release the 2nd version of the 3DS.

Remakes are down to personal taste I suppose. But I agree, the price is rather silly, I mean, the same as the price of the Wii at release? Not really fair.

300$ is a little on the high end, but still with in the range of possible. My only complaint here is it won't be out for xmas. But maybe it will give me something to do over spring break instead.

So yeah its backwards compatible and I'm pretty sure that one day they will offer them on the system in the future. Its early days yet, they can't offer a shit load of stuff straight away.

The price seems okay to me. It's a 3D handheld gaming system with SO many features. I wouldn't mind paying that price. Although I'll get disappointed when the price get's lower and then I'll regret buying it when it got released ....

P.S What price was the Wii when it got released in the UK? xe.com say's 300$ = £190 ??? I'm roughly guessing it's gonna be around £200 in the UK.

It was £179.

DSi LL was 20000 YEN in Japan and then £189 over here (as XL) if that's any indication of what this may cost though I think back then we was under 15% VAT unlike now. No idea about inflation but UK prices are always more than US anyway.

What you have to remember is that unlike the DS and Wii the tech is far more advanced. Its got motion, gryo stuff, 3D, handheld tech usually costs more, that cradle thing etc. Really don't see it costing any less than £249.99 here.

Here are some things that I'm worried/let down about:
- Price.
Actually it's a VERY good price because it has: 3D, touch screen, Motion n Gyro sensors, Good graphic processors and RAM and VRAM, 3 Cameras, Microphone, Impressive audio, etc.
Something like that would be expected like $400-$500

I disagree wholeheartedly, all that stuff ends up being super cheap for Nintendo to mass-produce, and really only an idiot would think a HAND-HELD would be priced anywhere near $500.
Nintendo wouldn't pull a Sony.

Is anybody else somewhat disappointed from the announcement?

Here are some things that I'm worried/let down about:
- Price.
- Only GB/GBA/GBC Virtual Console?
- Release date.
- For the price, the unit looks somewhat cheap.
- The re-addition of the volume "slider", as opposed to the excellent DSi and DSi XL volume buttons.

-The price is right for what it does (I was expecting a 400 dollar price tag at first), $300 ($350 most likely for me since I'm importing) means I can get this, 2 games, and maybe a case if they have good ones.
-You have expectations that are too high (at least we get GBA VC, which is what a lot of us DSi owners really wanted)
-This is how business works, plus it gives time for people to plan and save.
-You joking, that unit is sexy.
-Again too nitpicky

Give the 3DS a chance, it's actually worth your money and set your expectations a little lower.

man I would buy in a second if it was released for 300$ over here. That's exactly how much I've paid my for DS lite few years back.
Also wii was 550$ when first released.

The release date is a big dissapointing to me, personally. The price only irks me because of the date, so soon after Christmas. Had this thing come out in November (as it should have), I would've been more than happy to pay that price for it. No way I'll be buying this in March, though. On principle alone, I'd rather stick with my DS for a time than pay that much for a new handheld then. I'll wait 'til next October or November, personally.

I suppose they could've included titles from other portables in the VC, but who's to say they won't do that later on? For now, the GB/GBC/GBA back catalogue is one of the largest in existence; Nintendo has more than enough to draw on for a couple years.

Sometimes I think back to portable systems like the NEC Turbo Express, and I can't help but think about how reasonable $250 to $300 is for the 3DS. The Turbo Express launched in 1990, at the $250 to $300 price range, and if you think about how much things cost nowadays, and how much technology is packed into the 3DS, it seems like it should cost a lot more. It only seems baffling because Nintendo handhelds have always been a more affordable option, at the cost of inferior technology. While the software was always great enough to keep Nintendo on top, it seems they've finally brought the tech and software quality to the same high level, so a higher price is expected.

Seeing as though young gamers are a huge percentage of Nintendo's market, I wonder if many parents will shy away from buying their kids an expensive handheld.
