splat2n or a newborn homebrew community with not much to get from it out the gate, sorry, but pick your side, a new exploit will come eventually

Honestly, I dont get users claiming that "a new exploit will come eventually" when the people who has looked into the system already said its probably not gonna happend.

This is not the PSP or 3ds era. Look at PS3 or PS4.
Things are like this: Are you interested in homebrew and games? then buy another system. Thats ur only real choice. Deal with it.

still pointless to stay on a lower system version, and besides, even if an exploit comes from this, it's gonna be awhile till emulators are made, that is what I'm truly excited for is a more powerful portable device for emulation...compared to my 3ds, and fuck off with tablets cause I don't want to deal with the bulky, shitty attachable tablet controllers, not worth it

Most people don't buy it planning for piracy. They just hope it comes around later so they don't have to pay for everything, especially games they are on the fence about. There have been numerous times I've pirated a game because I was unsure and actually went back and paid for it later because I enjoyed it. Did it for undertale and hacknet. It's also nice to be able to buy the physical copy of games but then install a digital version. That way we have the collectible physical copy and don't have to carry every game we have when we leave the house.
Not saying it's good or moral, but just wanted to say most people don't buy a system just for piracy (at least not before it's been hacked for piracy)
Copying files is sharing, sharing is good, therefore copying is good.

Can I get a copy of your Visa card?
That would be identity theft, and you would be actually stealing from me because you would take money from my account.
For the logically impaired:

In this situation, you would be removing the original from my account (theft) as opposed to making a copy (piracy).

Sooooo If I go to the bookstore and scan a whole book to read it later, that is not theft? Orrrr if I make a copy of someones painting and sell it by myself thats not theft?
Orrrr If I just copy someones app thats not theft? Cool gonna try it.

Hey, I'm just making a copy of it. Nothing of value was lost.

No, that's copying

That would be fraud (the same as selling fools gold claiming it's real gold).

Also not theft, only copying.

This is not a difficult concept.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

Pirating a game instead of buying it is taking potential money from Nintendo's account.

Just saying.
"is taking potential money",
You can't take something that isn't there.

Socialism is sharing, but you don't like socialism
Socialism IS "forced charity" aka theft. Holding a gun to someone's head telling them to hand over 90% of their wallet is not charity, no more than forcing a woman to go on a date with you means she loves you.

It was there. They used it on resources to make the game.

I mean, I get your rebellious open-source inspired attitude, but if it worked the way you want it to with everything, there wouldn't be a single business open and the economy would just rupture beyond belief.

I wouldnt say taking money.
If someone has the the intention to get a game without paying money, he tries to pirate it. If its not possible for him to pirate it, he still wouldnt pay the money.

@Jayro, I don't see whats so special about the DS ML, its just a DS lite in a phat shell. At least the phat model had louder speakers, whereas the lite has a much better screen.

They probably said "Hey, why not we combine the two together and make a 'new' DS to sell".

It's a DS Lite in a slightly bigger DS Lite shell.

Nothing special about it other than it's more comfortable than the Lite

@SylverReZ if you could find a v5 DS ML you would have the best of both worlds since the v5 units had the same backlight brightness levels as the DS Lite unlockable with flashme

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

anyways, we need to re-normalize physical media

if i didn't want my games to be permanent, then i'd rent them

Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.
  • AncientBoi @ AncientBoi:
    I don't pirate them, I Use Them :mellow:. Like I do @BigOnYa 's couch :tpi::evil::rofl2:

  • cearp @ cearp:
@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM
  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm
  • rqkaiju2 @ rqkaiju2:
i like physical media because it actually feels like you own it. thats why i plan on burning music to cds
