I'm trying to install Chickhen but after i hover over the .tiff file in the photos menu, it just shuts off. It doesn't reboot. I'm on a PSP 2000 with firmware 5.03. Help, please. Thanks.

Keep trying...make sure you're using the slim file set too.

Restore everything to default(System Settings>Restore to default settings) even the language settings(i.e. If you have a Japanese PSP use Japanese as default language) Wallpaper to Original. Turn off UMD Cache and UMD Autostart. This helps mostly.

Ok guys, I'm looking to buy a PSP soon (I'll go for the 3000) and am wondering whether I should hack it, since I want to be able to play Phantasy Star Portable 2 online but have heard that you can't play original games online with a hacked PSP...anyway, I digress...

If a PSP3000 can't be "hard"modded (correct?) then it keeps running the official sony firmware, and only switches to the chicken one when you make it (correct?). Would that mean that a soft modded PSP can still play PSP roms, homebrew, AND original games? Also, if a PSP rom were to be ran, does it work as perfectly as the real game, including the online interactions (the way DS roms work perfectly on flashcarts)?

I recently bought a 3000 along with a handful of games and have since modded it. I must say I was nervous about it (seems to be a lot of bricking associated with these models), so I researched through forums dedicated to PSPs and watched some Youtube vids.
I intially used ChickHen and CFWEnabler 3.60, but have since switched to L.M.A.O. (seems more reliable than Hen) and CFWEnabler 3.60.

For the 3000 model to be modded, it cannot have official firmware installed after 5.03. If you buy one with firmware more recent than this (for eg. 5.55, 6.00, 6.10 or 6.20), then it cannot be modded, as you cannot downgrade the firmware at all.
The PSP remains modded with the 5.03 CFW (custom firmware) as long as the unit is not completely turned off (either by owner, or through battery draining). Should this occur, the unit returns automatically to official Sony FW 5.03. It's a slightly annoying but simple matter of running the Chicken process again and all of your data on the memory card remains intact.
As long as the PSP remains in "sleep mode" and charged, everything is good. Roms and GBA all run good, from what I have seen so far.

Note: I haven't tried any homebrew, nor online gameplay yet, so I can't help you with those questions.

That is very true. You cannot play online on current custom firmwares. However, if you use plugins like PSNLover, you can.

Ah okay, thats pretty good info. Could someone elaborate on the way hard/soft modding works with newer PSPs. Cuz you say some stuff like "CFWEnabler" "L.M.A.O", "ChickHen" "Hen" and its confusing me. Also, you mentioned using a plugin, could you tell me about that too, please?

GEN-D3 has a save corruption bug. That's why people either use GEN-D2, or just plain M33 as GEN D2 doesn't have the 6.00-6.10 compatibility.

Oh, you had me worried for a second. I thought you meant some sort of design flaw that would corrupt my data or something.
I just got my PSP a couple weeks ago and Immediately modded it.
So I went directly from OFW 3.95 to OFW 5.03 (to ChickHEN, if you want to count that) to 5.00 M33 to 5.50 GEN-D3, I really enjoy it, the PSP is an awesome system.

I used it to hack my PSP slim, it took a bit, but I finally got it, and it works perfectly.
