PS1/2 how to save when playing a PS1 game in a PS2?

should buying a Ps1 memory card solve the problem? will i be able to save my game when playing a PS1 game in a PS2? (Ps2 is modded but i donno which chip is used)

I had the same problem, yeah you need to buy a PS1 memory card, but thier DIRT-FUCKING-CHEAP now, so getting one shouldn't be a problem. I got a monstrous one at blockbuster if it helps.
