There's really no lingo here. As I recommended with the guide on page 62... Go slow and step by step and test everything to make sure you have the basics in place before moving on. What parts of the setup have you done (and verified) which step are you stuck on. This is literally a 5 minute setup.
What do you get when you run: macshift -i "YOUR WIFI CONNECTION NAME"* macaddress** (MACSHIFT... not maccycle... maccycle wont work until you have everything setup right and macshift is working).
Sure there's lingo, but I won't argue. Quick note about the screenshot posted earlier before continuing - I wasn't trying your directions at that point. I was still trying to do the setup as directed on the first page of the thread, so of course it wouldn't match up with your directions.
Moving on, I'll re-install the standard drivers for my wireless card and then try your directions again from scratch. I'll edit this post with my results after each step to see where the problem is.
1. Open the Network Connections window and note the name of the actual Wifi adapter. (I renamed mine to Wi-Fi for ease./)
Done. Mine will be named "Wireless Card"
2. Open a cmd prompt with elevated admin premissions
Done.
3. Type "netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=allow ssid=attwifi key=PASSWORD" (no quotes, and obviously pick your password).
Done.
4. Type "netsh wlan start hostednetwork"
Done.
5. Now look at the network connection window. there's a new "virtual NIC present". I strongly recommend you rename it.. (I called mine 3ds).
Done. The virtual card is named "3DS Point", attwifi already shows up beneath it. It is defined as a "Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter #4" on my machine.
6. Right click on your physical NIC (the one from step 1) and hit properties. Click the sharing tab. Click the "Allow other network users to connect though this..." and click ok.
When doing this, I am not allowed to just click "OK" after checking the instructed box. An error message comes up saying that I must select a specific connection from the list of available connections. I am going to assume that I should choose the virtual miniport "3DS Point" and move on to the next step.
7. Note now, The physical NIC will show it's "Shared" and the virtual NIC will show the "attwifi" sid.
The attwifi label was already showing under the virtual card, as I mentioned above. Not sure if this changes anything, or just means the connections remembered their settings from my previous attempts last night.
8. Just change the MAC address for the NIC in step 1 above, and restart the hostednetwork (rerun step 4). That's it.. a few minutes and the 3ds gets a hit. Rinse and repeat.
This step is too vague for me to comfortably try to continue. I'd appreciate exact instructions on how I should be changing the MAC address in this step. I'll leave the process at step 7 until I get clarification on step 8.
Oh yeah, I had a problem with macshift not working unless it was in the root of the C:\ drive.
I've moved the macshift folder to the C:\ root, in case the same problem may have been affecting my setup.
