How important is your computer to you?

If i lose my computer, then i lose wikipedia. Once i lose wikipedia, my grades are going to change drastically.

Seriously people wikipedia is not to be trusted. There are hundreds of good sources for all things science, language and history written by people that have a clue, add "site:.ac.uk OR site:.edu" without quotes to the end of a search and you will restrict it to most universities (some have .org and other TLDs so it is not flawless), failing that a -site:wikipedia.org can work but it does not filter all the other sites that copy and paste wikipedia.

For what it is worth should someone reference wikipedia in something I mark I would fail them.

Mmm...don't get me started.

Long story short, the day before Christmas, my box dropped. For whatever reason, the bios chip on my motherboard had a fan, and said fan decided he had spun enough for one lifetime, which lead to the computer not even recognizing my hard drives, if I was able to get it to boot to show me the bios screen.

My girlfriends box, nearly identical to mine, dropped two days later, for the same reason.


So I go to my local computer store, only to find out that my 3 year old motherboard and its friends are completely obsolete. My socket was too old for them to sell chips or boards, and my ram was outdated too! Not to mention, the HDD's I was using before were IDE (because I rock it old school), and the cheapest mobo they had that sported two IDE slots was $300 something.

So after all that, luckily it was the second-to-last-day in a really crappy year for any store, I managed to get a very low end (by today's standards) pc together for around $200. New Motherboard, AMD Sempron processor, 2 gig of ram, and a snazzy new 500gb sata hdd. This box destroys my old one so hard, I could care less that I could be experiencing something even more phenomenal for less than $100.

my computer is sort of special but not as special as my crusty old one which is basically i think illegal (1gb of snes roms, 7gb+ nds roms, 1gb of gba roms + more Sh*t) but the one i'm using now is decent so if i get this one gone, i got my old one hehe.

in the end, its pretty much important for me pirating and gbatemp-ing

This computer is very important to me considering it's my only link to half my friends abroad but I think I would survive without it for a week or two... One thing I couldn't do without is my wireless USB internet thingeh, I would never use this computer except for homework without my internetz XD

I use it all the time, it's convenient and a very good way to keep in touch with people. But I could live without constant access to the internet, had to do it a couple of years back when the powers that be thought it'd be funny to stick a computing student in a housing block with no internet. At the time it was a pain because all our course material was online, but otherwise I didn't really miss it much. Not having access to one at all for occasional use would be a pain in the arse, there's so many things like paying bills, reading up on things (the boring important kind or otherwise) and crafts that would be a whole lot harder without one. As for keeping in touch with people, well I guess that's what my long neglected mobile phone was invented for.

I don't really do much offline, read the occasional saved tutorial or doodle in PSP from time to time but that's about it.

It was very important for me in palestine.


When I was in palestine it was my money making job.Very little people have knowledge of the power of google, but everybody had a computer.I would torrent and sell music albums/DVDs/games/programs, and a bunch of other tasks as formatting someones computer, or changing the ops to xp, or vista.It supported my lifestyle.

But now It's not as important, but life would be boring and times without it.(The fact that I pirate, and complete Dual Screen games on it is enough to keep me entertained when I am somewhere doing something waiting for someone going somewhere)

Very important to me

I work with computers for my job, my home computer i need to remote connect to my work pc or another pc in 1 of the places of my work to try to fix things
or make sure that some updates are done on work pc's.

Besides that, i don't game on pc, don't feel the need for it cause i have consoles to game on.
I use it to keep contact with my family on the other side of the country and to read my daily news items

To keep me updated on what's going on in the world

VERY IMPORTANT! Sorry for the caps lock but I need it in my daily life. Firstly, I really need it to do my work for college (I'm doing an IT course, after all). Also, to keep in touch with friends and family in here and back in my home country. I can live without computers but it's just a necessity.

And I use it a lot for schoolwork/research, so it's quite essential to me.

I've got a Tablet PC, so all my my notes, papers, and assignments from class are all stored on my computer. If it died (and I didn't keep instant online backups), I'd be screwed.

My PC is my life, almost literally. I could easily go without videogames, TV, books (even being a Linguist, yikes!)... heck, even without music... but I wouldn't know what to do without my PC.

Nah, that's a lie. If I hadn't my PC, I'll go and get another one. *sigh*

And just to clarify, it's not that I'm addicted to it. I don't have Facebook, blog or anything the like, I barely use instant messaging services and I rarely play games (or even have them installed) on it. It's just that it's become something I use for almost everything, something that's part of my routine. Like wearing clothes.

I couldn't do that well without a computer, it's what I do a lot. I supply my friends with a lot of anime too, I don't think we would have much to talk about if I didn't get her anything. Anime is expensive, and even more at the only place I can find it: Sam Goody's. Also, my computer seems to make me forget everything, what's on my mind I want to get off, my troubles. Sometimes not good because I put things off for later and keep forgetting. I couldn't go long without the computer. I would get bored, GBATemp is fun to read all the ridiculous comments, and good news stories.
