Hello guys, i've now used my 2ds for a while and i am very happy with it!
But i want to backup my files that i currently have in my SD card, do i just follow this thread?
https://gbatemp.net/threads/how-to-transfer-emunand-to-another-sd-card-working-on-new3ds.383684/

I mean is the EmuNAND tool enough for me to secure my files with the menuhax etc etc?

I followed this guide a long time ago to install CFW my 2ds, so i'm using rxTools :)

you should update your cfw to a newer, and more feature packed, not to mention stable cfw as luma3ds, as rxtools is very ancient and unreliable.
But in respose to your question, backup the emunand with the emunand tool and backup the files by copying all the files and folders in your sd card regularly

Run Decrypt9 in the Homebrew Channel (make sure to update it first) and then use SysNAND backup / EmuNAND backup. For the SD card files, just copy them somewhere on your pc.

How do i update the CFW, should i just remove everything in my SD card (i will make a backup first), and then just install Luma3ds? Also if i install luma3ds do i need to mess around with the SysNAND? i don't want to accidentally update my current SysNAND (9.2) to a newer one... I dont know how it is right now but before you were screwed if you had the latest firmware...

Isn't is enough to just backup my files? :)

Not if you want to keep everything you have! Emunand is a different partition of your SD card.
To change to Luma3ds is very easy:
- remove all the files that have to do with rxtools from your SD card
- Download all files for Luma3DS here: https://github.com/AuroraWright/Luma3DS/wiki
- Copy all the files from Luma to your SD card
Tada, you're fine and you're running Luma now!

If you wanna do everything that's possible with your system then you could take the plunge and spend a couple hours with this: https://github.com/Plailect/Guide/wiki
You'll end up with all your stuff on an Updated Sysnand, with all patches so you can still do everything you want, a faster boot rate, brick protection, No emunand (so more space) and the best hax!

remove the rxtools folder and menuhax related files(boot.3dsx and boot_hb.3dsx)
Then(if you have menuhax set up) just copy the boot.3dsx in the menuhax folder to the root of the sd and the luma and 3ds folder to the root of the sd as well as the Luma3DS.dat

I wanted to reply but then @Davidosky99 ninja'd me. You don't have to use Gateway anymore :D Seeing as you already have an EmuNAND, start here: https://github.com/Plailect/Guide/wiki/Part-4-(2.1.0-Downgrade) "If you already have a CFW setup on any version between 9.0.0 and 9.2.0, change menuhax to type 1, set your menuhax trigger to D-Pad down, then start the guide at Part 4. Note that anywhere "RedNAND" is mentioned, you can pretend it says "EmuNAND" instead as they are very similar and the instructions will be the same other than that."

Hahaha i'm that kinda guy who follows one simple phrase: If it ain't broken, don't fix it. :P
But yea i've been living under a rock, but i had no idea it was that simple that's why i haven't update the CFW, i thought i had to go through all that process again...
Sweeet thank you very much! :D

One last question though, IF i somehoooooow mess something up and end up with the latest version in SysNAND am i screwed or can i downgrade to my current version 9.2?
As i wrote before, a long time ago, if you had the latest SysNAND firmware you were screwed.. That's why i bought the 2DS instead of the 3DS, to make sure i had below 9.2 when i got it :)

If you update your SysNAND without A9LH you're screwed. On 11.0 you'd need a hardmod to downgrade again. With A9LH you can update your SysNAND no worries now!

Yes, if you update to the latest version you're screwed. I mean, you're not bricked but you can't downgrade. If you follow plailect's guide to the word, and install A9LH , i assure you , nothing will and can go wrong. Specially with A9LH https://github.com/Plailect/Guide/wiki

Just to add to Davidosky's reply: Your current CFW (RxTools) does not support Luma3DS. It does not have the latest patches and the latest bug fixes. In the contrary, RxTools has reported some severe issues for some users so you could say that using RXTools that outdated is even riskier than installing A9LH nowadays. Conclusion: You have to switch to Luma as I described above and then start at Part 4 of Plialects guide. Just follow everything to the letter and you'll be fine. If you want, I can give you real time support on GBATemp while you're doing this. Just send me a private message :)

Just to be sure, i think i will start from the scratch... I will remove everything and format my SD card (after i've made an backup) and install Lumda3DS from step 1.. Isn't that better?

Thank you Temarile i will PM if i have any problems! :)

Well the main issue with all of that is that you will lose all your saves and all your games. So you'd have to start all the games again after going through the install of all the cia files (again).
If you've removed EmuNAND and just have a freshly formatted SysNAND on 9.2 then you can start at Part 1 yes. But if you don't wanna lose everything, just start at Part 4 as mentioned before. (After setting the menuhax trigger to what the guide says)

And I'll be glad to help you out!

That's okay, i didnt have that many games anyway and i don't care about the save games :)
One last question (i promise) :P
What do i need to do to start freshly start over to install Luma3DS? Is it enough to just format my SD card??
