The comment section of the video has some good points about it not being 2D which he doesn't explain in the video...

it isn't rendered in 3D, but characters, projectiles, and items all move around in a makeshift 3Dish area. The reason they did this was because PCs at the time couldn't run 3D so they needed to make something that looked 3D, but in reality wasn't. This made Doom accessible easily on nearly any PC, and as you can tell now, pretty much anything with a screen.

And Stunts.
And those other old untextured true 3d space games.
