I think the so-called speed issue is that with larger media types the more time it takes to find the info and pull it off the storage. Also if you actually read the wiki, it says something to the effect of 'so far it goes up to 2gbit in size known.' Doesn't say that it literally is the cap.

Theoretically the NES stopped at 32kb games, but that didn't stop Castlevania 3 from being 512kb. Same story can be said for GB, SNES (theretically 32mb, but star ocean was more,) etc down the line. A handful at least at 'legal' levels never breached the so called cap with GBA(32mbyte) and N64(512mbit) coming to mind.

Though I have to wonder...if Ash is on a 2gbit card (and it is) why the hell was DQ9 shown on 2 cards?!

I thought that DQ9 pic was just a mockup?
that image was made by some fanboy whining about the DS not being good enough for DQ9

So let's hope DQ9 will be a 4 Gbit game (one card of course).

I'ts good to see that games get bigger and bigger.

hadrian: why do you dislike CGI Rendersequences on the DS ? Too small screen ?

Wouldnt it be cool to have a Final Fantasy game on 2 carts so it can be hella long

That would be improbable, since the sav data is written on the card itself. Unless they could think of a method to pass data to another solid state media card, then you'd never see this happen. (It'd be cool to see a game like this, but it's more probable to see an increased size of the media card rather than distributing two smaller cards)

What's the point of having a huge game?

I mean, DQ9 can be 16MB for all I care, just as long as it stay's true to it's name.

Seriously, a game can be 128 mb and still suck ass.

You guys talk like the bigger it is the better.

Yes, large games can suck regardless. But a larger game also allows for more attention to graphical detail, better sound quality and the inclusion of detailed cutscenes (perhaps a better video renderer too).

I always thought of a huge ass game.. say it's a huge FF-game... a little bit pricy just because it has: two carts, and a save-pack!
the save-pack is a gba memorycard, which can hold data BETWEEN game carts...
just like any memory card on psx (with multiple cd:s).

now if square would make it, they could include the save-cart in a game... and use the same for upcoming games as well (and why not sell it separately as well...)....
well... I think that'd work.. sure it'd be some extra cash to pay... who cares? ppl, buy expencive toys all the time

(lika a guitar..........)

and maybe it can be used by other companies as well... it doesn't have to be a square-cart, but a nintendo-cart.... hello mario 65

(sequel to 64.... )

(ok, i'm tired... don't hate me too much for spelling like a jerk today)

They could hold the sav data for 2 carts inside a the ram expansion pak, maybe, like, "insert cart 2 now", then it loads, continue the game. It did say that the mem expansion pak only works for compatible games in the opera manual, and there has only been one game for it. There should be more games taking advantage of the extra ram in my opinion. Better graphics from games, more save slots, etc.

Don't you think the approach flashcards use would be better than some weird card-juggling thing that involves both ports? Just make a card that holds several 128MB parts (game "chapters") in the same way a flashcard holds several ROMs, and have them all use the same save slot. It would cost a bit more, but not as much as having two or more cartridges and a memory expansion.

The RAM gets erased every time the console is turned off or rebooted. And you can't replace the card with a new one without rebooting the DS.

Well, that certainly wasn't something I was implying by posting the thread. But with Square-Enix a large card size usually means the inclusion of a few glorious cutscenes, and let's be honest with one another -- Square-Enix does CGI better than Pixar!

I feel you though. Games like Pet Alien and Nanostray by Shin`en manage to do so much with so little mem space. Again though, I was mistaken in what I originally read in the report regarding the card size of FFIV.
