What's the point of having a huge game?

Well, imagine a language learning program on a DS. It would have a dictionary, word games, grammar exercises, but also a recorded pronunciation of every word in the dictionary, and using the microphone, could grade your diction and pronunciation as well.

Now, such an app could easily exceed 128 MB several times over.

They could hold the sav data for 2 carts inside a the ram expansion pak, maybe, like, "insert cart 2 now", then it loads, continue the game. It did say that the mem expansion pak only works for compatible games in the opera manual, and there has only been one game for it. There should be more games taking advantage of the extra ram in my opinion. Better graphics from games, more save slots, etc.

It's IMPOSSIBLE for Nintendo to allow a game to be released on two cards.
Reason: open any DS game manual and read the instructions: NEVER REMOVE THE DS CART WHILE THE POWER IS ON.

That's a Nintendo requirement and they're not going to change it just for DQ9, even if they're probably more than happy to have the title on their console. It could harm the console as well.

They could make a Slot-2 memory cart. You'd save onto it after completing say, card 1 of a DS game with two. Then turn off power. Last, load the save using the second DS card.

This same basic method can be used in PS1 games like FF 7/8/9 if you don't want to switch discs while on, so...

I don't know, that would encourage piracy even more, and they wouldn't do such a thing for just one game (manufacturing prices, etc.)

The only think I could think of would be a password system as in Zelda Oracle of Ages/Seasons, or Golden Sun 1 and 2, to transfer data and saves from one card to the other...
But even then that would be too much hassle.

Huh? What do you mean? People would have to buy the game to be able to play the second half of it!

No, I mean, it costs obviously more money to produce two cards instead of one, plus they would have to produce a memory card for slot 2 (see post above me) and sell it as a bundle: 2 DS cards + memory card slot 2... DQ9 would be the most expensive DS game ever!!! Even if it sells well (and we all know it will), I'm not sure that would be Nintendo/Square Enix's decision: why make a lot of money when you could do a lot more money?

But these were two different games: Golden Sun 1 and 2...

We're speaking of Dragon Quest 9 as onmy one game here... they wouldn't do part 1 and part 2 would they?

It's possible to read data from the slot2. So you can use that to increase the amount of space if someone would really feel limited by the amount of space available on the slot1 cartridge. However, considering no games except one have used the 256mb cart, I don't think any dev would ever do that.

Also, the dq9 thing being two cartridges was fake. Heck, at the time that screenshot came out they didn't even have the project finished enough to know how big it was gonna be.
