Hi,

I was able to downgrade fro 4.2 to 3.4 then back to 4.1 (after by taking the 4.2 update by mistake).

However, I can not boot the unit directly. I am able to get BootMii and go to homebrew or have a loder on the SD Card and then Press A then menu.

I want to get this back to boot without using bootMii or a file on the SD card.

I am not sure how to do this can anyone help please ?

Thanks !!

u must have bootmii @ boot2 (fyi, if u don't have a nand backup, make one asap), if u try removing the SD card and then turn on the Wii, what does it do? does it load the System Menu?

if this is the case... when your wii see's the bootmii folder on the root of your SD card, it will load bootmii, just rename the bootmii folder to something else (or use a program like bootmii switch to rename it back and forth whenever u want to access bootmii)

4.2 -> 3.4 (you left stub IOS 60 in it's place)
3.4 -> 4.1 ( update saw there is a higher version of IOS 60 and left it as is)

So you ended up with 4.1 menu with a stub ios 60...

You are lucky that you have bootmii@boot2... just install latest sane IOS 60 and you are good to go... either use wad manager with cios or use cBoot2...

@WiiCrazy, I don't think that's what happened only because the OP said he could load the SM (albeit it was said rather convoluted-ly)

edit: @ j_internet, feel free to jump in any time now

I guess he talks about launching a usb loader by "have a loader on the SD card" ... or maybe he has sneek installed in his sd card...

Downgrade + Upgrade directly suggest a stub brick to me though...

Yes, and I am that newbie!

Like all newbies I thought I had it covered as it worked on my other one... but.....

It does have system menu 4.1 If I power on the unit screen goes black and sits. If I have a SD Card in with file for bootmii I can get in. If I have a SD card from (Downgrading Pack from WiiHacker213) that has a startup and boot.dol it load a loader (can see what) and then I get the normal worning screen with press 'a'

Just trying to figure out the next step...

Thanks

Here is EXACTLY what I did.

1) Installed boot me as boot and IOS
2) Installed HBC

How to Downgrade Wii Version 4.2 to 3.2 (Works for All Regions U, E, and J)

[ How to Downgrade System Menu ]

Step 1: Removing IOS 249 Stub
1. Run HBC and open up Wad Manager.
2. Choose to use IOS 250 and press A.
3. Choose the Wii SD Slot.
4. Make sure IOS 249.wad is selected and press A.
5. Press Right on your D-Pad until it shows “Uninstall Wad”
6. Press A.
7. When finished, exit back to HBC.

Step 2: Installing CIOS 249
1. In HBC, press the Home button on the Wiimote and select “Launch Bootmii”. (If not Install BootMii as IOS in HackMii Installer)
2. cBoot2 will load up and that will load Waninkoko’s CIOS Installer.
3. Select to use “IOS 36” or “Do not reload IOS” and press A.
4. Agree to the crap and press A.
5. Choose “Network Installation” and press A. (Must have Wii Connected to the Internet)
6. Make sure the install succeeds and the press any key to exit to HBC.

Step 3: Downgrading IOS
1. In HBC, run the IOS Downgrader.
2. When it loads up, press A to start the downgrade.
3. Make sure that all of the IOS finish with an OK.
4. When it’s all done, press any key to go back to HBC or to System Menu.

Step 4: Downgrading to 3.2U
1. In HBC, run the AnyRegion Changer.
2. When you get to the menu, choose “Install System Menu 3.2”.
3. When asked if you’re sure, choose yes.
4. When it asks if you want Korean Disc Support, choose no.
5. When it asks if you want System Menu Hacks, choose yes.
6. When everything finishes, press any key and it will take you to its menu again.
7. In the menu, choose “Reboot to System Menu” and press A.

Congratulations your Now on Wii System Menu Version 3.2

Then when all done did the HBC and ran the Firmware Updater v4.1 Waninkoko

From what I understand the OP could not boot directly because he had a SM + stub SM IOS (deadly combination) but he could boot directly to HBC and then he could go to the SM from there? Is that what happened how is it that he could reach the SM even with a stub?

@OP you are a lucky guy cause what you did is suicide and still you survive.

As I am new to this I get a little confused with the IOS and what is really does. is the IOS one of the same for the bootstrap/loder or is the IOS something that loads afterboot?

In short just trying to figure out how the machine starts.

I can say that BootMii save my butt!

Thanks

Here is the boot chain

boot0 (on cpu) -> boot1 -> bootmii(if installed on nand)-> boot2 -> system menu ios -> system menu

these are loaded in chain, each one loading the next starting from boot0, you break one and the rest just fucks up too...

menu ios
