Hacking Hard drive that I was playing backups from got mysteriously....borked?

The last thing I did was play Mario Kart Wii online from Configurable USB Loader. The newest revision. All I did thereafter was play Strong Bad's game for attractive people, and when my love wants to play Search for Eden, Snes9GX shows all of these messed up files in my drive, and all of my previous stuff is gone. What could have happened?

Hard to say specifically but it could be many reasons. The most likely one is that your HD disconnected while reading/writing data. It's happened to my USB flash drive before.

Either way if you wanna try you could run chkdsk and scan for bad sectors, format your HD(as in fully nuke it) and hope it doesn't happen again.

*EDIT* Also whats odd is that the dates are 2020+

Seems like a bug with one of the apps you ran. That looks like the contents of an xml file or something. It was probably suppose to all go into a single text file, but for some reason, it started writing it to a bunch of files and folders as the names. Really strange.

WiiXplorer springs to mind...I just don't remember exactly what I would have copied, or why i would have needed to. Hmph. Oh well.

Maybe I'm just saying that because WiiXplorer was the first thing I used to look at the drive after Snes9GX revealed the problem

Looks like it was probably Snes9x GX. Those settings look like they would be from a SNES emulator. It was probably just a weird one time thing. I wouldn't worry too much about it. Are you sure that all the old stuff is gone? How much space does Windows say is used on the drive?

Actually, now that you mention it, Windows says the drive is mostly full as if the stuff is still there. If it is, how would I go about recovering it?

I'm running Chkdsk /r on the drive right now, and it seems to be painstakingly working on -something-. So I'll just wait and see.
