TREASURE-Co.jpg

I'm probably the only one who cares but this year marked the 25th Anniversary of Treasure Video games. The company was founded in 1992 and is made up of small number of ex Konami employees. Since then, they have made original exclusive games for other companies. The developers had made very noteworthy games like Gunstar Heroes being their first, Dynamite Headdy, Mcdonald's Treasure Land, and Alien Soldier on the Sega Genesis/Megadrive, Moving forward they also made Mischief Makers, and Sin & Punishment, for Nintendo 64, moving forward they also made Guardian Heroes on Sega Saturn, a 6 player 2D "Beat'em up" and plethora of other games including sequels for some games.

They mostly have small development team of least 30 people, but along with the companies that they was developing titles for, they would also get more people to assist with them in development making the process all the more easier. They also self published some games like Bangai-O on Sega Dreamcast and Nintendo DS, and one very popular game in 2001 called Ikaruga, a notoriously difficult space rail shooting game released for arcades and ported to various consoles like Dreamcast, Gamecube, Xbox Live (360) and Steam. (pc) There is also more games that I personally didn't expect like Wario World on Nintendo Gamecube, a 3D action platformer starring Super Mario's rival... counterpart, and two games for NDS based on the Bleach anime/manga series, Bleach Blade of Fate and Bleach Dark Souls. (Not to be confused with Namco Bandai's Dark Souls Series)

There is plenty other games, some exclusive to specific regions like Alien Soldier which wasn't released on Genesis in USA, making it even less well known. Currently they haven't been as active as I have liked them to be with either new games, sequels to existing ones or even modern ports. What are your favorite games from this publisher? :)

You mention TREASURE but you fail to mention the Bangai-O games? For shame. At least you got Ikaruga, but I think that game is overrated.

Sadly I have only had the pleasure of having my brains blasted to pieces by Bangai-O Spirits, the "watered down" Bangai-O game. I have heard that the original 2 are really something special. But if you have an DS flash cart, I would try to find a download for this game. Its incredible if you like space shooters. There's even a level creator for you creative types.

Alien Soldier and Gunstar Heroes will always have a special place in my heart.
Happy Birthday to probably one of the greatest companies to ever come in existance.

Sorry "Sir" I never heard or played that game, so I wasn't worthy to comment on it. But I mean if you could comment, that be good. :)

There, edited and added to the notable mentions, just cause you brought it up. :P

Alien soldier is a crazy game Lol. Is not easy either, but who would thought someone makes a "BOSS RUSH" video game like that is bold. Almost as bold as that one taz mania game for Snes where you run and grab kiwi birds. :ninja:

Still I mean is very action based but just hard. One of the video game with one too many bosses, and I thought gunstar heroes had too many bosses.... Seven force anyone? Oh wait that is also in Alien Soldier O_O

That game is funny but not bad, just difficult.

Eh, its more or less eclipsed by the other great games they have made. And the most available and memorable to our current gamer gen is easily the weakest of the trio. Funny enough, looking at your list, I think its the only treasure game I have played myself. D:

Well I mean I could have just looked up at wikipedia all the games and listed it but I was trying to highlight the ones that is considered "Cult Follower" Status with ones I am aware of such as the ones I played. Gunstar Heroes is widely available, on many systems, the 3DS classic one is better of the ports cause of the slight modifications to the system, being able to change the Standing shoot and running shoot option was a huge Plus, as well as some easier game play modes, with either having more life or dealing more damage. (I encourage everyone to play the 3DS classic sega games on eshop, worth playing for the enhance modifications, not the 3D.... even though it looks good as well.)

Dynamite Headdy is a impressive game, by how it looks, the music, and the gameplay, is another widely available game on Steam, ps3, and xbox 360 (included in sonic ultimate genesis collection) Alien Soldier was only available in USA on Wii virtual console and steam, unless you had the "SEGA CHANNEL" You didn't have this on genesis in a cart. (Was the only way to get it.... same with mega man wily wars)

Sin & punishment was also a game that was japan exclusive until nintendo made it available on virtual console. It has full english voice acting but everything else was Japanese subtitles. It was planned to be released during N64 but just didn't. Mischief makers is also a game that was on N64 and while I know the name and watch people play it, I myself never did. Grabbing and shaking things with a robot android, doesn't look as fun. Wario world, was probably another game no one saw coming, but least is not a compilation of mini games that have you doing random stuff and moments notice.

My point was some games that I just didn't know much about. But then again the games most people know well was the ones that wasn't self published... Besides Ikaruga... and Bangai-o, probably the only two. (only said it cause you know it) :ninja:

Sin & punishment and Ikaruga were awesome games (can't say much of the others, as I don't know them yet). However...is it me, or have they dropped under the radar as of late?

Some... umm.... "Indie" devs just do those unexpected dropins. Still i least wanted nintendo to consider Sin & punishment 3DS or switch maybe. But they just do things without actual awareness. For example, Bleach, Blade of fate was a Fighting game For NDS published by sega based on the Bleach manga series. While their previous games was mostly shooting games. Just never know what will pop up. :P

@SylverReZ if you could find a v5 DS ML you would have the best of both worlds since the v5 units had the same backlight brightness levels as the DS Lite unlockable with flashme

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

anyways, we need to re-normalize physical media

Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.

@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM

  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm

i like physical media because it actually feels like you own it. thats why i plan on burning music to cds

It's nice to not have to have a lot of physical things though, saves space
