Even provided that the trademark is real, it could mean absolutely nothing except that Valve decided it was a good time to file a trademark for HL3 in Europe. In no way does this even remotely confirm that the game is in development, or that it will ever exist.

The fact that Valve made this move so soon after the announcement of the Steam OS (which is only a year away from launching) only helps the case. Make Half-Life 3 a Steam OS exclusive and suddenly you have a massive killer app.

That could explain some things....
Maybe they just wanted to protect the trademark because is being abused lately after all the announcements related to the new goal of Valve.
