A trademark application for Half-Life 3, possibly the next entry in Valve's excruciatingly dormant Half-Life franchise, has been filed in Europe, according to the Office for Harmonization in the Internal Market, the European Union's trademark and designs registry.
The OHIM's database lists the Half-Life 3 trademark as owned by Valve Corporation, and filed on its behalf by Casalonga & Associés, a patent and trademark firm. The trademark covers "computer game software," "downloadable computer game software via a global computer network and wireless devices" and other goods and services. The application was filed on Sept. 29. There is no equivalent trademark on record at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
We've contacted Valve to verify the trademark and asked if it would like to confirm the existence of a new Half-Life game. We'll update with any new information.
The most recent entry in the series, Half-Life 2: Episode Two, was released Oct. 10, 2007.

It seems that Valve finally decided to make another game of the Half-Life franchise. Rumor, leak, fake ? Personally I don't really care (never played any of the games) but since every others news about this game were shady, I'm not really confident about this...

Even provided that the trademark is real, it could mean absolutely nothing except that Valve decided it was a good time to file a trademark for HL3 in Europe. In no way does this even remotely confirm that the game is in development, or that it will ever exist.

Saw this a couple of hours ago, same source. Seems legit, and let's be honest, we always knew it was coming.
Looking forward to the hype and inevitable disappointment :P

Oh, ye of little faith.

When you file for a trademark like this, you have to use it or lose it. You have some time, usually a few months to a couple of years, but when that time's up, whoosh (it varies depending on region). The fact that Valve made this move so soon after the announcement of the Steam OS (which is only a year away from launching) only helps the case. Make Half-Life 3 a Steam OS exclusive and suddenly you have a massive killer app.

Forget the skepticism, guys. The jokes were fun, but it's over. We're going to see Half-Life 3 (relatively) soon. It's habbening. It's really habbening. Prepare yourselves.

I have been contacted by so many people over this

Talking common sense about this and the fact just because they trademark something doesn't mean there gonna use it anytime soon if at all and i got told to "Stop shitting on everyone's good times" :D

"T-trademarks don't mean anything g-guys."
So why would Valve trademark this now? Because they felt like it? Obviously something is cooking at Valve headquarters.

In a world, not far from here.
Where Steam is king and humble peasants are working on the fields.
A light shines bright from the sky.
Could it be?
Could it really be!?
A magical timer appears.
It reads:
Half life 3 release
3:69 HL Valve time
